Japanese February Motorcycle Sales
The Japanese Automobile Manufacturer’s Association (JAMA) released its February 2012 motorcycle production/sales numbers Friday.
The overall numbers from the Big Four – Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, among others – were down 10.2 percent compared to January 2011; JAMA reports that 30,906 units were sold (factory shipment).
Although these numbers are negative, they mostly account for motorcycles under the 125cc mark:

- 50cc or under 17,993 units, down 15.8%
- 51 – 125cc 7,637 units, down 15.6%
- 126 – 250cc 2,612 units, up 57.7%
- Over 250cc 2,664 units, up 13.5%
Regarding motorcycle production in February 2012, 66,400 units were produced, compared to 57,967 units for the same month of 2011, increase of 8,433 units or 14.5%,

- Class 50cc or under 8,264 units, down 57 units or 0.7%
- 51 – 125cc 3,821 units, down 397 units or 9.4%
- 126 – 250cc 6,509 units, down 62 units or 0.9%
- Over 250cc 47,806 units, up 8,949 units or 23.0%
Following is a breakdown of motorcycle exports by manufacturer for February 2012:
- Honda 19,071
- Suzuki 12,877
- Yamaha 13,539
- Kawasaki 10,819
- Total 56,306
