Benda Motorcycles: Complete Brand Guide & History
Benda Chinchilla 250CVT.

If you’ve been watching the cruiser market lately, you’ve probably heard the name Benda. Maybe you spotted one at a dealership, on a forum, or riding down the street. We have started testing the Benda lineup and have decided to dig deeper, scouring the brand’s own Chinese-language website, its official filings with the Chinese government, and more.

Let’s start at the beginning.

Benda P51 concept.

WHERE BENDA COMES FROM

Benda is a Chinese motorcycle company founded in 2016 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The legal parent company is Hangzhou Saturn Power Technology Co., Ltd., and the operating company registered with the Chinese government is Zhejiang Shiwu Motorcycle Co., Ltd. The brand name “Benda” was chosen as a more global-facing identity for the product line.

Hangzhou is one of China’s most advanced cities for technology and manufacturing, and is the same city that unleashed Alibaba on the internet. It’s a fitting home for a company that, from day one, positioned itself as a design-first, engineering-first brand rather than a volume assembler.

Benda Motorcycles: Complete Brand Guide & History: Hybrid Boxer

Benda’s official tagline translates roughly as “The world always holds new riding encounters.” The company’s stated mission, taken directly from its website, is: “Driven by aesthetic design, grounded in exquisite craftsmanship  —  creating motorcycle products with unique style and artistic value, and giving global riders new reasons to ride.”

The Benda vision statement is equally direct: “Create a brand-new kind of vehicle. Become a globally renowned mobility aesthetics brand.”

THE THREE BENDA BRAND VALUES

Benda officially grounds the company in three brand values, displayed prominently on its Chinese website About page, and our translation:

Pure: “Our interpretation of passion and experience.” This means no filler, no compromise on the riding feeling.

Enterprising: “Our determination to pursue excellence without limits.” This one shows up in the engineering choices: in-house engines, proprietary platforms, and an aggressively growing product roadmap.

Uncompromising: “Our firm attitude toward creating our products.” Quality over shortcuts, always.

The company calls this combination its brand DNA.

EARLY YEARS: BUILDING THE FOUNDATION (2016 to 2019)

Benda got moving immediately after founding. In 2017, the company launched its own engine division. Most Chinese motorcycle brands, even large ones, buy engines from established suppliers, such as Loncin, CFMoto, and Zongshen. Building your own engine means carrying the cost of R&D, tooling, and quality control yourself. However, it also means you control the most important part of the motorcycle.

That same year, Benda set up R&D and industrial design offices in Austria, where KTM’s renowned design partner Kiska operates. This wasn’t an accident, as Benda wanted European design talent involved. The company also built two factories in China to give itself the capacity to scale quickly and reduce supply chain risk.

Who Is Benda Motorcycles? Chinchilla 300.
Benda Chinchilla 300.

Benda’s first major product was the Chinchilla 300, a 298cc liquid-cooled V-twin sport cruiser. It connected immediately with Chinese buyers. Within a short time, the Chinchilla 300 had sold approximately 80,000 units, making Benda a serious player in China’s domestic cruiser market almost overnight.

According to Benda, the entry-level Rock 250 has since been “approved by over 600,000 new riders.” That impressive total shows how deeply the brand has penetrated the Chinese beginner cruiser market.

WHO RUNS BENDA?

Hangzhou Saturn Power Technology Co., Ltd. is a privately held company. It employs approximately 1200 people, with more than 20% of that workforce dedicated to R&D and design. That’s an unusually high design-to-production ratio for a manufacturer of any size.

The Chinese government has recognized Benda with several formal designations: high-tech enterprise with first-class qualifications for national road motor vehicle production, a provincial R&D center in Zhejiang, and the national Professional Excellence and Innovation Enterprise certification,  a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology award for manufacturers demonstrating genuine specialization and innovation.

On the European side, Libo Liu serves as Managing Director and General Manager of Benda Motor Europe GmbH, the company’s Austrian subsidiary based in Salzburg.

Liu has a strong European design pedigree. He studied Industrial/Transportation Design at Braunschweig University of Art in Germany, graduating in 2012. He then worked as an Interior Designer at Audi before moving to Kiska, the firm with strong design ties to KTM. Liu spent eight years at Kiska as a Senior Designer. He joined Benda in 2022.

THE FULL MODEL LINEUP

As of 2026, Benda sells over a dozen models in China and Europe across five distinct families, though only four are imported into the United States. Let’s go over what we may be seeing at US dealerships in the coming years.

THE ROCK FAMILY

The Rock family  —  named “huishi”, meaning gray stone or gravel, in Chinese  —  is Benda’s flagship cruiser line. These are larger, more powerful motorcycles with a premium positioning.

Rock 707. Benda’s 691cc V-twin cruiser produces 73 hp and 50 lb-ft of torque, with belt drive and Brembo brakes. The chassis features electronic two-chamber air suspension with automatic seat height adjustment. This allows the rider to raise or lower the seat between 27 and 28 inches while stopped. Three trim variants are sold in China: Standard, Pro, and Ultra. The Benda Rock 707 is not currently offered in the US.

Rock 707EC. This is Benda’s newest and most advanced model. EC stands for Electronic Clutch, which operates similarly to Honda’s E-clutch. The 707EC adds the Benda BCD Smart Connected Vehicle Network and a three-year complimentary telematics and connectivity system. The Benda Rock 707EC is built on the same platform as the Rock 707 but represents a significant technology upgrade.

New Generation Rock 250. The Rock 250 is Benda’s gateway model for new riders in China. The sales figure mentioned on the official site suggests this is one of the best-selling entry cruisers in the Chinese market.

THE CHINCHILLA FAMILY

The name “Chinchilla” reflects the animal’s status in Chinese society. It’s a fashionable exotic pet, popular with Chinese millennials and Gen Zers. The Chinchilla is also Benda’s best-known family internationally, with a V-twin powerplant and retro styling.

Chinchilla 500. It is powered by a 476cc liquid-cooled DOHC V-twin, and features a belt final drive. Imported into the United States, the Chinchilla 500 has an MSRP of $6,149. The pricing represents the sweet spot of Benda’s American lineup for riders who want more displacement than the 300 ($4999 MSRP) without committing to the inline-4 of the LFC700, which retails for $10,899.

Chinchilla 350CVT. Benda markets this as a segment first: a V-twin cruiser with a CVT automatic transmission. It’s aimed at new riders and urban commuters who want the V-twin look and feel without the manual gearbox.

Chinchilla 300. Imported into the United States, it features a liquid-cooled V-twin motor, fat tires, and retro styling.

THE DARK FLAG FAMILY

This is Benda’s performance flagship line, and home to some of the most technically significant machines the company has built. “黑旗” means Black Flag or Dark Flag in Chinese.

Dark Flag 500. This is an important motorcycle for Benda, as it’s China’s first home-built V4 motorcycle, predating the Dark Flag 950, which received more international attention. The Dark Flag 500 established the V4 platform that the entire Black Flag family builds on.

Dark Flag 950. This is Benda’s international flagship. The 948cc V4 engine produces 108 hp and 63 lb-ft of torque. It was the first near-liter Chinese V4 when it was announced in 2025, and the Benda Dark Flag 950 is headed to UK and European dealerships in 2026.

Benda Dark Flag 950.

Dark Flag 600. While not officially announced, expect it. This is a 598cc V4 that produces 71 hp and 41 lb-ft of torque at 8000 rpm. Two versions will be produced: a white version with an electronic clutch and a black version with a traditional manual gearbox and an optional air-suspension setup. Both versions include dual-channel ABS, TCS traction control, electronic throttle, all-LED lighting, dual TFT full-color displays (one integrated into the fuel tank), and Brembo brakes. The 600 was designed to fill the market gap between the 500 and the 950, and its filing means it will be released in China soon.

THE NAPOLEON FAMILY

THE LF FAMILY

Originally sold under the Liao name, which translates to “blaze” or “ignite,” the LFC and LFS 700 models are powered by an inline-4 producing 92 hp at 11,000 rpm and 47 lb-ft of torque at 8500 rpm.

LFC 700 Pro. This is Benda’s inline-four performance machine, and wildly popular in China. The chassis runs a roomy 67.7-inch wheelbase, giving it a commanding road presence Benda describes as “naturally imposing.” Standard equipment includes a KYB fork, Brembo brake calipers, custom folding LED light wings that open at the touch of a button, and a Benda app that pairs your smartphone to the motorcycle. The LFC 700 Pro won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2024.

Benda LFC 700 Pro

LFC 700. This simpler version of the Pro has more basic suspension, a wider 310mm rear tire, a different exhaust, a less sophisticated dash app, and a smaller radiator. Unlike the Pro, the standard model is imported into the United States with a list price of $10,899. We have taken a First Look at the Benda LFC 700.

LFS 700. A sibling to the 700 Pro, the LFS 700 is a naked roadster that blends American flat-tracker styling with Chinese cultural references. The Tang Sword was the iconic blade of the Tang Dynasty. Like the LFC 700, demand at launch in China outstripped supply, forcing Benda to suspend reservations. This inline-4 700 is not currently offered in the US market.

THE KEEWAY PARTNERSHIP (2022 to present)

In 2022, Benda entered a strategic partnership with Keeway Group, the Italian-based distributor that also handles Benelli motorcycles and Keeway scooters globally. This was the move that took Benda from a Chinese domestic brand to an internationally distributed marque.

The Euro-only V-Cruise (125cc) and a rebranded Chinchilla, the V302C, were the first products to reach Europe, arriving in Italy and Spain beginning in 2022. They sold well enough in the sport-cruiser segment to justify a wider expansion.

In 2024, the agreement was expanded to cover the Keeway network across the United States, Canada, Europe (Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom), Asia (India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines), and Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, Uruguay).

In spring 2025, Benda officially entered the United States and Canada through Keeway America, the US distributor for Benelli. The launch lineup was three models: the Chinchilla 300 ($4999), Chinchilla 500 ($6149), and Napoleonbob 500 ($6499). The LFC 700 was added for 2026 at $10,899.

EICMA 2025: BENDA’S GLOBAL STATEMENT

In November 2025, Benda brought 12 motorcycles and 7 ATVs/UTVs to EICMA in Milan, with more than half of the machines making their international debut. The scope of the showing made it clear that Benda was no longer positioning itself as a niche Chinese exporter. It was pitching itself as a full-range global motorcycle brand.

  • The P51 hybrid concept
  • The Dark Flag 950 for UK/European launch
  • Multiple V4-powered models beyond the Dark Flag 950
  • The Rock 707 family
  • A growing range of 4-wheel OHVs

THE P51 HYBRID: UNLIKE ANYTHING IN PRODUCTION

The Benda P51 concept, which debuted at EICMA 2025, is a hybrid motorcycle, the first time a manufacturer has put a hybrid powertrain in a cruiser chassis.

Benda P51 concept hybrid boxer.

The P51 uses a 250cc horizontally opposed DOHC boxer twin, combined with an electric motor in a P1+P3 hybrid configuration. A P1+P3 combination means there are two electric motors. This allows the motorcycle to run on electric only, combustion only, or both simultaneously for maximum power. The combined output is 62 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torque for a bike that weighs less than 400 pounds. Benda claims acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

The name P51 references the US Army Air Force’s P-51 Mustang fighter plane, which the Chinese-American Composite Wing flew P-51s in WWII’s Pacific Theater. The styling reflects this inspiration.

Benda has indicated that a production version of the P51 is targeted for mid-to-late 2026, though no firm date has been confirmed.

BENDA HAS EARNED A VARIETY OF AWARDS

IS BENDA WORTHY OF YOUR ATTENTION?

Yes.

Initially, Chinese motorcycles had a well-earned reputation for quality control issues and short lifespans. That reputation has been changing, and Benda is one of the companies driving the reversal.

Photography by Kelly Callan.

Benda builds its own engines, hires European designers, and partners with one of the world’s most experienced motorcycle distribution companies. Benda’s flagship LFC 700 won two Red Dot Awards. The Dark Flag 500 was the first domestically built Chinese V4 motorcycle, and the Dark Flag 600 is about to hit the market with specs that rival competitive cruisers from Japan and Europe. Plus, a sophisticated hybrid is promised.

Benda has not yet established a reputation for reliability in Western markets, as the brand has only been present there since 2025. However, the engineering foundation appears strong. Chinese sales numbers are in the hundreds of thousands of units, so Benda is a real motorcycle company with real customers.

The Benda story is still in its infancy. The inline-6, the P51 hybrid, and the V4 expansion are all in the future. Yet, the first chapter is clear. In less than a decade, Benda has built a diverse lineup ranging from 250 to 950 cc, established a European subsidiary, secured a US distribution deal, and earned two Red Dot Awards. That’s an impressive start.
