The 2027 Suzuki SV-7S is the venerable SV650 sportbike under a new name and with updated electronics, while keeping the 645cc V-twin, steel trellis frame, and 30.9-inch seat height. New for the SV are ride-by-wire, three ride modes, traction control, a quickshifter, a 4.2-inch TFT dash with smartphone connectivity, and LED lighting all around. Suzuki hasn’t announced pricing or a US on-sale date, and UK dealers get the bike in spring 2027. Note that some of the photos are of the Euro version of the SV-7S.
- Ride-by-wire makes the rest of the update possible. Electronic throttle control replaces the SV650’s dual throttle valves and brings three ride modes that will be familiar to Suzuki fans. Mode A (Active) has the sharpest throttle response and full power. Mode B (Basic) also makes full power, with a response closest to the SV650’s. Mode C (Comfort) softens the throttle and limits peak output to 60 horsepower. The rider picks a mode with switches on the left side of the handlebar, and the choice shows on the dash.
- The SV-7S adds traction control. There are three levels of intervention, or you can turn it off. Mode 1 is least intrusive, Mode 2 is for city and everyday road riding, and Mode 3 is for wet or slippery pavement. As with the ride modes, you can make changes from the left switchgear on the fly.
- A quickshifter is standard. It works without the clutch above 2000 rpm on upshifts and 1700 rpm on downshifts, and it can be turned off. Suzuki revised the close-ratio 6-speed transmission to enhance the quickshifter’s performance. Easy Start and Low RPM Assist carry over from the SV650, so one press of the starter button does the job in neutral, with no need to pull the clutch lever.
- A 4.2-inch color TFT replaces the SV650’s LCD. Screen brightness adjusts automatically or manually, and the display can switch on its own between a white day background and a black night background. A scratch-resistant, anti-reflective surface is intended to keep it readable in bright light. Pair an iOS or Android phone via Bluetooth, and the Suzuki Ride Connect+ app adds turn-by-turn navigation, call notifications, weather updates, and traffic alerts to the screen.
- An LED headlight changes the SV’s face. The flat-bottomed round unit replaces the SV650’s halogen bulb, with a slim LED position light running across its center. The turn signals, taillight, and license plate light are also LED.
- Despite the 7 in its name, the engine is still 645cc. The liquid-cooled, DOHC, 90-degree V-twin retains the SV650’s 81.0 x 62.6mm bore and stroke. Suzuki has built more than half a million of the motors since 1999, so it’s a proven powerplant. The update brings new downdraft 39mm throttle bodies, revised injectors, and a new airbox and exhaust. Suzuki rates the UK version at 72 horsepower at 8500 rpm and 47 lb-ft of torque at 6800 rpm.
- The handlebar is the main ergonomic change. The tapered aluminum bar measures 28.3 inches across and is wider than the SV650’s for more leverage. Suzuki kept the SV650’s seat shape and 30.9-inch seat height. Narrow side covers and a slim junction between the tank and seat help riders reach the ground. A helmet hook sits under the seat.
- The chassis stays familiar. A tubular steel trellis frame and tubular steel swingarm carry a non-adjustable 41mm fork with 4.9 inches of travel and a linkage-assisted shock with 5.1 inches of rear-wheel travel and 7-step spring-preload adjustment. Suzuki tuned the suspension to favor comfort. The 56.9-inch wheelbase matches the SV650’s. Brake sizes are also unchanged, with 290mm discs and Tokico 4-piston calipers up front, a 240mm disc and Nissin single-piston caliper in the rear, and standard ABS.
- New wheels accommodate familiar tire sizes. The 10-spoke cast-aluminum wheels replace the SV650’s five-spoke design. They carry Dunlop Roadsmart III sport-touring tires in 120/70-17 and 160/60-17 sizes.
- The SV-7S weighs a little more than the SV650. Curb weight is 441 pounds, up 4 pounds from the 2026 SV650 ABS. The redesigned tank is lighter, holds 3.7 gallons, and leaves room beneath it for the new electronic hardware.
- The US gets two colors, and neither frame is last year’s blue. Pearl Suzuki Deep Blue No. 4 pairs blue bodywork with a Matte Sword Silver frame and blue wheels. The Matte Sword Silver/Glass Sparkle Black version has a silver tank and frame, also on blue wheels.
- Suzuki’s price will decide what kind of an upgrade this is. The 2027 Suzuki SV-7S gets the electronics the SV650 lacked and keeps its fork, shock, and 645cc V-twin motor. Speculating on the price is difficult, and there’s not much room to maneuver. The 2026 SV650 ABS lists at $8149, while the SV-7GXV crossover, with the same V-twin plus a fairing and a 4.6-gallon tank, is $8399. The modern GSX-8S is $8749. We have seen other brands deliver upgrades with no corresponding price increase, so we’re pinning our hopes on an $8149 MSRP.
