HJC and Cardo Systems have developed the Spirit, a Bluetooth communication system built specifically for 11 HJC helmet models in the RPHA, F, and i ranges. Rather than mounting a one-size-fits-all aftermarket unit on the outside of a helmet, the Spirit integrates directly into compatible HJC helmets for a cleaner installation and a lower-profile fit. The list price for the Cardo HJC Spirit is $150.

The Cardo HJC Spirit intercom runs on Bluetooth 5.2, connecting two riders at a time with a maximum unit-to-unit range of a quarter-mile. Audio is delivered via 40mm HD speakers, and the microphone is available in boom or flat configurations. The Spirit has an IP65 waterproof rating, and is backed by a two-year warranty.

Battery life is rated at 10 hours, with a full charge taking two hours. Fast charging delivers up to two hours of talk time from just 20 minutes on the charger. For longer rides, the Cardo HJC Spirit supports charging while riding. This allows the unit to be connected to an external power source to extend operation beyond the standard battery life without interrupting the intercom function. Over-the-air software updates mean riders never need a cable or a computer to keep the firmware up to date.

The Cardo HJC Spirit connects with other Cardo intercom units via universal Bluetooth rather than the newer mesh protocol. Standard pairing applies to Freecom+ and Packtalk units, while older G and Q series units require phone pairing mode to be initiated first. Cross-brand pairing is supported with Midland, UClear, and Sena intercoms.

A paired smartphone is not required for basic operation, as the intercom can function independently. However, the Cardo Connect app enables remote control of the Spirit, easier configuration, and over-the-air updates. For non-Cardo headsets without universal pairing, the mobile phone pairing mode is available as a fallback. Features such as music sharing may not be available when paired with older Cardo units.

Riders can also connect their own earbuds or aftermarket speakers through the unit’s 3.5mm jack. The optional Cardo Audio Set upgrades the sound system with 45mm JBL speakers for $110.

The Cardo HJC Spirit is compatible with these 11 HJC helmets: RPHA 31, RPHA 60, RPHA 71, RPHA 71C, RPHA 91, RPHA 91C, F31, F71, F71C, i71, and i91.
