Ducati All Stars

As well as one of the founders of the Sex Pistols, Steve Jones has forever been a motorcycle enthusiast. He’s had motorcycles on the covers of his records and since he moved to California in the early 80s has constantly be seen on a variety of different bikes.

While he always had relationships with the motorcycles themselves, he never connected with the companies that made them. This changed in 2009 when he bought his first Ducati, the Hypermotard 1100 S, and working with the team at Ducati North America, he created a unique motorcycle that reflected his tastes and personality.

This led to the idea of gathering other like-minded musicians for what was planned to be a one-off concert to kick-start the 2010 New Year by celebrating two passions: Ducati motorcycles and music. Working with his friend and fellow enthusiast, Billy Morrison, they put together a line-up for the first concert at the legendary Roxy Theater on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood including Jason Bonham, Mark McGrath, Chris Wyse, Franky Perez and Donovan Leitch.

The show was sold-out and the evening was a huge success, bringing together fans of both Ducati and Rock & Roll. The following month another sold-out show was performed in Arizona with friends Duff McKagan and Billy Duffy joining the action.

With Ducati All Stars popularity growing fast, Steve, Billy, Franky and Billy embarked on a tour riding Ducatis up the Pacific Coast of the USA, stopping at dealerships to play shows along the way. In eight days they played seven concerts and rode 2000 miles on three Ducati Multistrada 1200s and a Ducati Streetfighter S. The adventure was documented in a blog from Billy Morrison and a film crew recorded a series of short videos scheduled to be released from June 2012.

Fast forward to today and the Ducati All Stars have come together to play at World Ducati Week 2012 on Saturday night, 23 June. They will bring their music to the place that gave birth to their passion of Ducati and the exciting concert is sure to go down in WDW history.

The Ducati All Stars line-up

Steve Jones is best known as a founding member of the Sex Pistols, one of the most influential bands and cultural movements (Punk) of the 20th century. His approach was innovative and authentic and the band did things their way despite established music boundaries. It taught people that no matter what their social, economic or event talent status, they could make something for themselves if they stayed true to themselves. He later went on to collaborate on writing and producing many famous records along with the regular Sex Pistols tours. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame but his band declined as they were never part of the establishment of the music industry and have remained true to their beliefs to this day. He now DJs at the World Famous KROQ radio station in LA. He loves to customise his motorcycles and currently rides a highly customised Ducati GT1000 and Ducati Multistrada 1200 S.

Duff McKagan was the bass player for Guns N’ Roses and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee along with the supergroup Velvet Revolver that he formed with fellow Guns N’ Roses bandmates and the singer from Stone Temple Pilots. He currently fronts his new band, Loaded. Duff played the second Ducati All Stars show in Scottsdale and he’s a motorcyclist currently torn between a Ducati Diavel and a Ducati Multistrada.

Franky Perez is a singer and multi-instrumentalist known for having one of the best rock voices in LA. He is a guest vocalist for concerts all over the country and he’s also taken his band to a couple tours to Iraq and Afghanistan to play for the troops. Last year he was featured in the TV show Sons of Anarchy, also contributing music for the show. He recently started a new band called Pusher Jones with members from Velvet Revolver, Weezer and Queens of the Stone Age and was featured on the Avengers movie soundtrack. He spent a year on a Ducati Streetfighter S and is now contemplating a Ducati Diavel or Ducati Streetfighter 848… all black of course. Franky has performed at all Ducati All Stars shows and tours.

Steve Stevens is a guitar virtuoso who started his career as Billy Idol’s guitarist and collaborated on the first three Billy Idol records with hits like Rebel Yell and White Wedding. He ventured out for his solo projects and was a hired gun for Michael Jackson , Robert Palmer, Thompson Twins and Ric Ocasek. Additionally he co- wrote the Top Gun Anthem which earned him a Grammy award. Steve has re-joined Billy Idol’s band and tours internationally on a regular basis. He doesn’t ride, but loves Italy and can’t wait for a tour of Bologna. Steve played with the Ducati All Stars in LA and Scottsdale.

Billy Morrison plays rhythm guitar for Billy Idol and he’s played with The Cult and Circus Diablo. He also is leads the rotating roster of talent in the supergroup known as Camp Freddy. Billy is an active motorcycle enthusiast, an actor and, as one of the leading drivers behind the Ducati All Stars, has played at all of their shows.

Isaac Carpenter started in a Guns N’ Roses cover band and is now the drummer for Duff’s band, Loaded. He was recently picked as the touring drummer for American Idol star, Adam Lambert. He’s not a motorcyclist… but a great drummer!
