The 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono is the Bologna-based brand’s first single-cylinder supermoto, a street-legal machine built around a strong power-to-weight ratio. Two versions are available: the $12,995 base model and the $14,495 RVE.
The RVE adds a graffiti-inspired livery, a black powdercoated frame, and a quickshifter, which is optional on the base bike. The base model has a classic Ducati Red powdercoated frame with matching plastic.
The 659cc Superquadro Mono is derived from the 1299 Panigale’s Superquadro V-twin, carrying over its massive 116mm bore and desmodromic valve actuation. It makes 78 horsepower and 46 lb-ft of torque. Dual counterbalancers quell vibration, and the single doesn’t feel too high-strung for daily use or lose steam at freeway speeds.
A 6-speed transmission and a slipper clutch are standard. A race-only Termignoni exhaust raises peak output to 85 horsepower and unlocks Wheelie Assist, a track-only feature intended to help maintain sustained wheelies.
Ducati built the Mono nearly 80 pounds lighter than the Hypermotard 950 SP. The steel-trellis frame uses variable-thickness tubing, and the aluminum swingarm and cast-aluminum wheels help keep weight down. Handling is reactive and snappy, and tight corners are its favorite.
A fully adjustable 45mm Marzocchi fork and ZF Sachs shock provide 8.5 and 9.4 inches of travel. They soak up rough stuff well, and that much travel brings some motion at the edge of the Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires. A Brembo M4.32 caliper and a single 330mm disc need little more than a one-finger pull.
Sport, Road, Urban, and Wet modes manage IMU-supported cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and engine braking. Slide-by-brake helps riders back it in, and rear ABS can be disabled. A compact 3.8-inch LCD display handles the settings, and navigating it is a tad tricky.
The 35.6-inch seat height is tall, and the wide handlebar and slim profile accommodate knee-down or leg-out riding. A few hours in the saddle is tenable, and the 3.2-gallon fuel tank and lack of wind protection make this a short-range machine.

It would be difficult to design a more welcoming entry-level cruiser than this easy-handling, visually appealing boulevard bobber.
