2016 Yamaha SR400 | Motorcycle Buyer’s Guide

The SR line has a long history with Yamaha, and the now-retro bike is back for 2016. Some things have stayed the same on the SR400–it’s a kickstart-only bike, with simple air-cooled motor, and a rear drum brake and wire wheels.
Yet, it also has electronic fuel injection and a front disc brake. Designed for around-town performance, fill-ups of the 3.2-gallon fuel tank should be rare, thanks to an estimated fuel consumption of 66 mpg.
Approachable as a stock bike, Yamaha expects it to get the same sort of customization treatment as the Star Bolt has received. Be sure to try kickstarting the SR 400 before you buy it–some people find it easier to accomplish than others. Everyone, of course, will like the light wet weight of 384 pounds with the 3.2-gallon tank filled.
