SMK Agnar Helmet Review: Dual-Certification Full-Face for $175

The SMK Agnar helmet is a full-face street helmet built around a thermoplastic shell, multi-density EPS liner, and a drop-down sunshield. It is intended for everyday road riders who want basic helmet features without stretching the budget. At $175 MSRP for a solid color, the Agnar undercuts much of the established competition while earning dual DOT and ECE 22.06 certifications. SMK Helmets‘ parent company, Studds Accessories Ltd., builds helmets at four factories in India. It is one of the world’s largest helmet manufacturers in the world, with 7.4 million helmets sold in FY25. Studds has been in the helmet business for over 50 years, even if the brand name is still unfamiliar to most American motorcyclists.

SMK Agnar Helmet Review: Sizes

The SMK Agnar helmet features a thermoplastic outer shell and a multi-density EPS liner to meet DOT and ECE standards. Sizing runs from XS through 2XL, with four solid and three graphic color options. My test helmet is the gray/yellow Tektron graphic, which SMK has discontinued for 2026.

The Medium-sized test helmet tipped the scales at four pounds, with the included Pinlock installed, which is typical for a thermoplastic-shelled lid. In hand, it feels exactly like what it is: a mid-weight, budget-conscious street helmet.

On the road, however, balance matters more than weight, and the SMK Agnar carries its weight well. I didn’t suffer from neck fatigue on longer day rides. The ratchet-style quick-release retention system replaces traditional double D-rings. It’s glove-friendly and convenient, even if some riders prefer D-rings.

The Agnar includes a clear outer shield and an infinitely adjustable internal drop-down sun shield. The faceshield has a large central lift tab, though breaking it free from the fully locked position takes effort with winter gloves. Faceshield removal is tool-free, and the eyeport provides a wide field of view with a usable cracked-open detent. Optical clarity through both shields is neutral, with no distortion whether seated or standing on the pegs.

The faceshield is Pinlock 70-ready, and SMK includes the insert. That’s a meaningful value addition at this price. Optional Pinlock-ready faceshields are available in multiple tints and mirror finishes for riders who want a different look.

SMK Agnar Helmet Review: Dual Certification

Ventilation includes a chin vent, dual upper intakes, and rear exhaust ports. As expected in this class, airflow becomes noticeable at speed and improves as velocity increases. The upper vents open and close easily with summer gloves, but the sliders require more effort when wearing winter gloves. The chin vent is controlled internally via a lever inside the chin bar. It’s easy enough to operate with light gloves and less so with heavier cold-weather gear.

The eyeglass channels worked as intended, holding my prescription glasses in place without creating pressure at the temples, something not every helmet in this price range manages well.

I mounted a Sena 50C communications unit, but the drop-down sunshield slider’s placement forced me to use the adhesive mount instead of the clamp. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s worth noting if you’re particular about comm installs with clamp mounts. On the upside, cutouts prevent ear pressure with speakers installed.

The helmet is not loud. However, you should wear earplugs if you plan to ride over 40 mph for extended periods.

The removable, washable liner is comfortable and moisture-wicking. Fit is intermediate oval and accurate to size in my testing.

The SMK Agnar helmet doesn’t pretend to reinvent anything or offer innovative features. Instead, it delivers the features most street riders actually use: an internal sunshield, Pinlock, a ratchet buckle, a removable liner, and effective ventilation. It’s a straightforward, full-face helmet that performs as expected, and costs less than most riders would expect for a dual-certification helmet.
