Inside Alpinestars D71 Special Edition Tech 10 Boots
If you were watching the 2016 Daytona Supercross by Honda, you might have noticed that Martin Davalos, Jason Anderson, and Daytona 450SX winner Eli Tomac were all wearing the same boots. That’s because they all raced in the Alpinestars D71 Special Edition Tech 10 boots that were created to celebrate the 45th anniversary of dirt bike competition inside the Daytona International Speedway tri-oval. The D71 refers to Daytona ’71, of course.
Of course, the appeal of the unique color treatment is just a small reason to buy a pair of Alpinestars Tech 10 boots. CE certified, the Tech 10 boots are the flagship of Alpinestars’ motocross boot line.
Extremely complex in design—with five different polymer compounds used in the chassis of the boot to provide flexibility and rigidity, as needed—the Alpinestars Tech 10 is an incredibly well integrated design.
On the outside, the dual-compound sole is multi-density with the support structure built-in. The sole is seamlessly integrated into the rest of the boot, yet the central sole is fully replaceable. It can be a DIY job, or you can send them off to Alpinestars, which also does full boot servicing.
Inside, the Tech 10 boots are as plush as you would expect from an Italian-designed boot. For additional protection and comfort, the Tech 10 has a separate inner ankle brace that resists twisting forces on the ankle, while still allowing the shifting and braking movements required for effective riding. Three simple-to-use self-aligning buckles (with traditional sawtooth adjusters), plus a hook-and-loop closure for the microfiber gaiter, allows for a customized fit.
Alpinestars D71 Special Edition Tech 10 boots are the second Special Edition Tech 10 boot from Alpinestars in the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series. Alpinestars’ Special Edition A1 Tech 10—which featured a striking Black/Yellow Fluo/Blue/Red color combo—celebrated the opener at Anaheim Stadium. Both of the Special Edition Alpinestars Tech 10 boots run $600 a pair, and are available in sized 7 to 14.
