One of the coolest flat-track racing events in the world – the Superprestigio – will be hosted in America Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at Orleans Stadium in Las Vegas. The event heads to different parts of the globe every year; last year’s Superprestigio – won by two-time MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez – was held in Barcelona, Spain.
But this year the race comes stateside, and will host many of the USA’s most prestigious AMA Pro Flat Track riders, including AMA Pro Grand National Champion Jared Mees; former champs Jake Johnson, Kenny Coolbeth, Jr., and Brad Baker; and X Games Gold Medalist Bryan Smith. Included on the grid will also be MotoAmerica/AMA Superbike Champion Josh Hayes, former AMA Supersport Champio Roger Hayden, and current MotoAmerica champs Joe Roberts and Jake Gagne. And what would a race be without TV coverage? AMA Pro Racing reports that NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) will televise the 2015 Superprestigio of the Americas presented by Yamaha at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 29.“We’re thrilled to be able to showcase the Superprestigio of the Americas to a national audience on NBCSN,” said SMI President Steve McLaughlin. “It’s a great opportunity to expose a national audience to the excitement of flat track racing. It also provides our riders, their sponsors and the supporters of our event an immense reach to an audience of more than 85 million households on NBCSN.”The Friday and Saturday night races at the Orleans Arena will be the centerpiece of a full weekend of exiting activities in Las Vegas, including the 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track Awards Banquet scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, AMA Pro Racing reports. The Superprestigio of the Americas (SOTA’15) will bring together leading motorcycle racers from various motorcycle-racing disciplines from around the world to compete head to head with the stars of AMA Pro Flat Track on a specially-designed indoor short track at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Nov. 21, 2015. The special race is part of the big Las Vegas doubleheader weekend with the AMA Pro Flat Track finale taking place the night before (Nov. 20, 2015) on the same track, AMA Pro Racing reports.
Hello everyone and welcome once again to Motos and Friends—the weekly Podcast brought to you by the editorial team at Ultimate Motorcycling.
My name is Arthur Coldwells.
In this week’s first segment, Senior Editor Nic de Sena rides the much anticipated Yamaha MT-10 SP. That’s the model with the Ohlins semi-active suspension. It’s only been available in Europe for the last couple of years, but finally the good news is, that it’s coming to America. The big question is, whether the extra 3k you’re going to have to pony up for the Ohlins is actually worth it, or perhaps there’s just not that much improvement over the stock KYB suspension that has suited the Yamaha MT-10 so well until now?
In the second segment, Associate Editor Teejay Adams chats with Val Collins. Val grew up on motorcycles and learned to love speed, however her real love is Formula 1 tunnel-boat racing. These are the guys and gals that are strapped into a tiny cockpit and then hurtle down the straights at 120 mile per hour and pull 5G in the corners. We attended the recent season finale in Lake Havasu and watched our friend Mike Quindazzi try to take the win. Val chats with Teejay about her love for two-wheels and tunnel-boats. Yeah, it’s crazy stuff.
From all of us here at Ultimate Motorcycling, we hope you enjoy this episode and have a great Thanksgiving Holiday!
