Yamaha has recalled 16 of its 2016 YZF-R3 motorcycles due to upper triple clamp issues.

Yamaha says the effected R3 motorcycles, manufactured from Jan. 1, 2015, to Aug. 31, 2015, may have been built with a improperly manufactured upper triple clamp that can crack while riding.

If this occurs to bikes effected by the Yamaha R3 recall, riders may loss control of steering, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Yamaha says it will notify R3 customers, and dealers will replace the upper triple clamp free of charge. Owners may contact Yamaha’s customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha’s recall number is 990099.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
