Friday Sachsenring Moto2 Practice

When Friday’s Moto2 practice wrapped up at Sachsenring in Germany, a mere 0.074 of a second separated the top-two riders, both on the Marc VDS Racing Team.

Leading was Mika Kallio, who got the best of his teammate Esteve Rabat during the final moments of the 45-minute FP2 session. These two riders are also in a huge battle at the top of the point standings. After eight of 18 rounds, Rabat has 157, 27 ahead of Kallio.

Taking the third-quickest overall time Friday was NGM Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi, who trailed Rabat by just under a tenth of a second.

Behind the Finnish rider was Technomag carXpert’s Dominique Aegerter, who was followed by Dynavolt Intact GP’s Sandro Course, who is racing at home.

Rounding out the top 10 in the combined Friday practice times were Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2), Jordi Torres (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2), Julian Simon (Italtrans Racing Team), Alex De Angelis (Tasca Racing Moto2) and Randy Krummenacher (IodaRacing Project).

In FP2 Lorenzo Baldassarri (Gresini Moto2) and Axel Pons (AGR Team) walked away from crashes, with Cortese, Simon and Johann Zarco (AirAsia Caterham Moto Racing) escaping injury in FP1 crashes.

As for the sole American on the Moto2 grid, AirAsia Caterham Moto Racing’s Josh Herrin finished over two seconds off the pace.

The riders will return to the Sachsenring circuit Saturday for the remaining practices ahead of qualifying.
