2013 AMA Supercross 250 Class Anaheim II Results
GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac won for the third time in as many Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250 West Regional races on Saturday night at Angels Stadium at Anaheim (2), Calif.
Tomac won the season opener in the same stadium as Saturday night and last weekend in Phoenix.
Eli Tomac (GEICO Honda CRF250R Supercross) says: “I’m slowly stretching out that points lead. I’d like some more points right now, but you can’t ask for anything more than getting three wins this early in the season.”
After a second place finish in his heat race, Tomac got off the starting line in the 15 lap 250SX main event in third place. However the hard-charging defending class champion would not be denied. He passed Ken Roczen for second place around the halfway point of the race before picking off Cole Seely for the lead on Lap 10.
Eli Tomac says: “It was a good battle. Those guys are probably my two best competitors in the class right now. It made for good racing. I had some good lines out there and it was a fun race for sure.
“I was trying lines inside and outside, because it was a good track for trying different things.”
With the win, Tomac extended his points lead over Roczen, who has finished second three times, to nine points.
Tomac’s teammate Zach Osborne has his best finish of the season, finishing just off the podium in fourth place.
Zach Osbourne (GEICO Honda CRF250R Supercross) says: “I want to be in the front, that’s what I’ve been hired to do. But I feel like that is coming soon.”
Osborne got a mid-pack start in the main event, but was able to quickly work his way through the pack and settle into fourth place for the remainder of the race.
Zach Osbourne says: “I’m still struggling with my shoulder a little. I got off to about a 10th place start and worked my way forward. By the time I got up to fourth, the race was so far gone ahead of me; I couldn’t do anything about it.
“Next week, I’ll just need to get a better start and I should be able to put it up on the podium. I have all the pieces; I just have to put them together.”
Earlier in the night, GEICO Honda’s veteran 450SX rider Kevin Windham announced his retirement from Supercross competition. While he didn’t race on Saturday night, Windham did take part in opening ceremonies and delighted the sold out crowd performing four of his signature transfers before making his retirement announcement.
GEICO Honda’s next Monster Energy AMA Supercross race will be Jan. 26 at Overstock.com Coliseum in Oakland, Calif.
