Can anyone seriously stop Marc Marquez at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas? The Repsol Honda rider has dominated every MotoGP race since the Texan F1 circuit joined the MotoGP calendar in 2013, earning every victory from the pole. Marquez, who finished third at the season opener in Qatar and won last weekend in Argentina, wasted no time showing his strength at the 3.4-mile circuit containing 20 corners during the opening practice sessions Friday for the 2016 Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas.

Since Circuit of the Americas joined the MotoGP Championship in 2013, only one rider has claimed victory there – Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez. The now-23-year-old Spaniard was also a rookie in that 2013 season, and his first-ever premier-class win occurred at COTA, which was eventually followed by his debut MotoGP title that same season.
Besides not having any experience with the spec Michelin tires or Magneti Marelli ECUs at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit, the 21-rider grid was greeted with inclement weather conditions in Argentina. Due to the issues associated with the weather, only 13 riders finished the race.
News coming from the Argentinian MotoGP Grand Prix this weekend is that Dorna Sports SL (owners of the MotoGP series) have announced that the current rules for aerodynamic winglets on premier class machines (that aid in stability and cornering grip) will be “from immediate effect, extended to helmets and race suits.”
The feud between MotoGP stars Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo has grown to new heights and to calm the troubled waters between the two. To reconcile their differences, the two decided that it would be best if they exchanged kidneys as a sign of peace, not just among racers but among nations as well.
So often a conservative company, Honda does have a rebellious streak–and things don’t get much wilder than the hyper-expensive 2016 Honda RC213V-S. Putting the price into the stratosphere is the fact that the bike is very much last year’s MotoGP bike brought to the street with as few changes as possible.
