The history of the Gilera motorcycle company began in the early 1900s with the launch of the VT 317, the first motorcycle designed by Giuseppe Gilera, in 1909. After the first World War, Gilera's 500cc flathead motorbikes won the top international races.
The American Motorcyclist Association is pleased to announce that the 2012 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days rally - the country's grandest celebration of old bikes and the people who love them - will highlight the classic "Rockers and Mods" two-wheeled subculture that is presently undergoing a popular resurgence in America.

A self-made businessman with a passion for motorcycles, he used his entrepreneurial spoils to finance a race team and achieved impressive results: His race bikes won three consecutive 125cc world titles in the mid-1970s, a coveted 250cc title in 1977, and another 125cc championship the following year.
