Simpson Helmets Partners with Twiceme: NFC Smart Safety Tech

Simpson Motorcycle Helmets has announced a new partnership with Twiceme, a company that makes digital safety tools. Simpson is adding Twiceme’s innovative features to help protect riders in the case of an accident.

Although the Simpson name is well known among motorcycle riders, having been selling helmets for over 65 years, Twiceme might be new to many. Let’s break it down.Simpson Helmets Partners with Twiceme: NFC Smart Safety Tech with Smartphone Assistance

Twiceme is a tech company focused on building a digital safety system for activities in challenging conditions. This Stockholm-based company’s primary tool is a small Near Field Communication (NFC) chip. This is the same technology that lets you tap your credit card to pay at stores.

In this case, a Twiceme NFC chip is built into a Simpson helmet. It works with a free smartphone app that lets you store important health information on the chip, such as your medical history, allergies, and blood type, along with emergency contacts.

When paired with your smartphone’s GPS and motion sensors, the Twiceme system can detect if you’re not moving after a fall.

The NFC can be programmed to send alerts automatically to family, friends, and first responders via your smartphone.

When a first responder arrives and the rider cannot communicate, the rescuer can tap a smartphone on the helmet to instantly pull up the rider’s health data—no need to dig through wallets or guess.

Partnering with Simpson marks an exciting step for Twiceme as we enter the U.S. motorcycle market for the first time,” Twiceme CEO Christian Connolly explains. “By combining Simpson’s decades of helmet innovation with our smart safety technology, we’re introducing a new standard of protection for one of the world’s most passionate riding communities.”

Simpson’s Director of Motorcycle Division Jamie Beckett added, “We’re very excited to bring this technology into our helmets and to the motorcycle industry. Just like our founder, Bill Simpson, we never want to rest on what we’ve done. Our goal is to keep evolving, to bring riders the latest innovations and deliver the safest equipment possible.”

The first Simpson motorcycle helmets with the Twiceme tech will be available before April.
