If you are among the thousands of riders whose tour plans include traversing the spectacular country of northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula while following U.S. Route 2, you should know about a new powersports destination dealer. It is Trails-North Powersports located at 200 E. Lead St., in Bessemer, Michigan.

Trails-North Powersports is particularly important to motorcyclists, whether they are long-haul touring or local daily riders in the region. There just aren’t as many parts, supplies, and gear providers in the area as there once were.

Owner Matt Shinabery knows the business. He rides motorcycles and snowmobiles, so he understands the needs his shop can help to meet. Though it isn’t a dealership for new motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, or snowmobiles, the shop stocks a large inventory of parts, accessories, and riding gear.
Shinabery says, “We are working towards just being a retail store with a large web store similar to Dennis Kirk. Our web store is directly connected to the warehouses of Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited that are both owned by the LeMans Corporation, headquartered in Janesville, Wisconsin. We currently have over 50,000 different products available to purchase.”
Walls are filled with helmets for sale, including Klim and Z1R.
Trails-North Powersports stocks a range of parts and products from S&S Cycle, Drag Specialties, Arlen Ness, Custom Dynamics, Amsoil, Red Line, Feuling, Vance & Hines, Mustang, Klock Werks, Fat Baggers, Parts Unlimited, Wix, Moose, EPI, and others. This includes common maintenance parts, such as oil and air filters, spark plugs, brake pads, and batteries. A wide range of parts and accessories are available for Harley-Davidson models.
In addition to apparel and accessories, common parts are available.
Riding gear brands include Sena, Z1R, FXR, Nelson Rigg, Gerbing, Klim, and Castle X, including a new line of helmets, hoodies, and crew shirts featuring Pabst Blue Ribbon’s famous PRB logo.

In our second segment this episode Arthur Coldwells chats with Tony Bracalente, founder of Ryder-Gear. Tony is a Navy veteran and was a nuclear engineer on submarines; he’s also a frequent track rider and racer. He founded Ryder-Gear as a result of his own track riding needs, and after friends kept asking him to help them out with what they needed, he eventually started the company. Tony’s interesting background and story-telling ability gives some insight into what it takes to improve motorcycle safety both on the track, and on the street.
