2016 AMA Amateur National Motocross Dates Released

The 2016 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship will take place Monday, Aug. 1 through Saturday, Aug. 6, the American Motorcyclists Association says.

This year marks the 42nd running of the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, and the 35th anniversary of the event being held at the historic Loretta Lynn ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

The intense competition for an AMA National No. 1 plate begins much earlier, however. Competitors must race their way through the AMA national qualifying program to be eligible for the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship.

AMA Area Qualifiers are the first step to attending the world’s most prestigious amateur motocross competition. More than 50 area qualifiers in over eight geographical regions across the United States make this the largest amateur motocross program in the world.

Qualifying riders then advance to the AMA Regional Championships. From there, America’s elite amateur motocross racers advance to the national championship, earning one of the 1,482 coveted spots at the Loretta Lynn Ranch event.

The AMA Area Qualifier and AMA Regional Championship dates will be announced soon.

The AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is the ultimate test for an all-around motocross athlete. With a three-moto format, the national championship demands skill, speed and endurance from all riders.
