Barbara McQueen to Motocyclepedia Auction

1st Annual Motorcyclepedia Museum Antique Motorcycle Auction

Barbara McQueen, wife of the late film legend, Steve McQueen, will make a special guest appearance to commence the opening of MidAmerica Auctions’ 1st Annual Motorcyclepedia Museum Antique Motorcycle Auction in Newburgh, N.Y., greet fans, and share in the enthusiasm for all things motorcycle.

The event will be held May 18 -19, 2012 at the Motorcyclepedia Museum built by the Doering Family and founders of V-Twin Motorcycle Parts. Equipped with two authentic operating motorcycle motordromes, the converted warehouse showcases over 400 of the world’s rarest antique and classic motorcycles, including a 1897 De Dion-Bouton trike, a 1901 Thomas, and the most complete collection of original Springfield Indian motorcycles in existence.

The museum, 25 miles outside New York City, is the permanent home of the most recent Antique Motorcycle Foundation exhibit, “Fast from the Past: The Competition Motorcycles of Yesteryear,” a collection of 35 machines showing the evolution of racing.

A perfect backdrop for the world’s largest purveyor of antique motorcycles for over 25 years, MidAmerica Auctions presents an eclectic collection of 125 antique and special interest motorcycles up for auction.

True aficionados cannot only appreciate the motorcycle lore, they can take a piece of history home. Headlining items for auction include a 1953 Vincent Series C Touring Black Shadow in nearly factory original condition, a 1928 Indian Scout with Fire Patrol Sidecar, a 1923 Reading Standard, a 1912 Wagner ‘4-12′ Single, and a 1929 Harley-Davidson “Woody Woodard’ Flat Tracker.

An equally exclusive opportunity at the event is the chance to meet Barbara McQueen, who will be available to greet fans, share stories of her life with Steve McQueen, and sign copies of her book, “Steve McQueen: The Last Mile.” The book tells the story of a simple love affair with life, her personal photographic record of the behind-the-scenes pleasures and enthusiasms she shared with Steve.

Barbara, who had established a very successful career for herself as a fashion model, met Steve McQueen in 1977. Together for less than four years, these rare and private photographs capture moments they shared including hitting the road in Steve’s pickup trucks, visiting collectors’ shows and swap-meets, driving 700 miles to view a rare World War I motorcycle, flying a vintage mail plane, and generally ducking out of Hollywood life. But when work did call, Barbara was also on hand to capture marvelous candid shots on the sets of McQueen’s two last films, “Tom Horn” and “The Hunter.”

Ron Christenson (President, MidAmerica Auctions) says: “Steve McQueen is a historically iconic image of the quintessential motorcycle enthusiast, and we’re honored to have his wife join us to commemorate his passion.”

The joint venture between MidAmerica Auctions, Motorcylepedia Museum, and McQueen was a destination location for bike enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Outside the museum, there will be local vendors and pet adoptions from Rescue Ink of the National Geographic Channel on Saturday. Event times: Friday, May 18, 2012, 5p.m. – 9p.m. (Preview) and Saturday, May 19, 2012, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 3 -12, and under 3 are free.
