2012 Dakar Rally: US TV Schedule

2012 Dakar

Considered the toughest rally race in the world, the 2012 Dakar begins New Year’s Day and ends a grueling 15 days later following almost 5,200 miles of racing.

Millions of people will be watching on the course that runs from Mar Del Plata, Argentina, through Chile and finally ending in Lima, Peru, with a many eyes on the KTM riders who won three Dakar Rally events apiece – Marc Coma and Cyril Despres.

And billions are once again expected to view the Dakar race on TV. For us stateside Dakar fans, the NBC Sports Network (Versus becomes NBC Sports Network on Jan. 2, 2012) will feature a half-hour show every morning starting at 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.

The DAKAR will see over 50 nationalities, including America, participating this year and has raced thru 27 different countries since its inception including the 2012 addition of Peru. More impressive than the vast terrain the DAKAR has raced on throughout the years is the amount of media attention the DAKAR receives each year.

It is in the truest sense of the word a global phenomenon. With over 5 million people lining the course and with over a billion in TV viewership it is the largest rally race in the world.
