Indian Motorcycle Recall
Indian has recalled 2009-2011 motorcycles due to safety requirement problems with the kickstands, and also headlight issues. Polaris, owner of Indian, says 699 motorcycles are affected.
Polaris says the Indian motorcycles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 123, "motorcycle controls and displays."
Polaris says the side-stand may not fold rearward and upward if it contacts the ground while the motorcycle is moving forward, increasing the risk of a crash.
Polaris also says the Body Control Module (BCM) can overload, causing the headlight to turn off in some incidents. This can also increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the side stand free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during August 2011. Owners may contact Indian at 651-408-7579.
