Edelweiss: South America, Coast to Coast

South America Motorcycle Tour

The old adage that pictures speak a thousand words will always be relevant when one’s planning a motorcycle trip. These photos do speak more than words when considering the Edelweiss South American Coast to Coast tour scheduled for this fall.

The motorcycle tour, which will be from Sept. 24 through Oct. 14, 2011, will begin in Arica/Chile and end in Rio de Janerio (think Dakar!).

Following is a description of the tour from Edelweiss:

"The starting point of this unique adventure is the little town of Arica in northern Chile and we cross the whole continent on new BMW motorcycles! Some short hours later we are already high up in the Andes, surrounded by incredible mountain ranges and a herd of Lamas.

"After crossing the border into Bolivia we reach the famous city of La Paz at 12000 feet where we spent an unforgettable afternoon at the Indio Markets before we experience the famous "Ruta de la Muerte" the next day.

"We continue our trip to Cochabamba and Santa Cruz in the Bolivian low-lands before we cross the border to Argentina – the country of the Gauchos! Are you hungry? You should taste at least one of the worlds best beef steaks! Iguazu is our next goal: Here we will spend two extra days to explore Argentina and Brazil and to pay a visit at the Iguazu waterfalls. On our way to Rio we see many beautiful beaches and stop every now and then to enjoy the local beach life.

"At the end of this amazing adventure we reach the most famous city of South America, Rio de Janeiro. Here we will spend our last rest day and all together we will climb the famous Jesus statue at the Sugarloaf Mountain before we return to the hotel to get our last original Caipirinha served!"
