Indianapolis AMA Supercross: Stats & Facts

AMA Supercross

Twenty-three points separate the AMA Supercross Series leader Ryan Villopoto over San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart as the SX boys prep for Indianapolis Supercross tonight at Lucas Oil Stadium.

But it’s not only a battle between the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider and Stewart; after three consecutive podium finishes, Chad Reed trails Stewart by one point, and has been quick aboard the Two-Two Motorsports Honda CRF450R.

As the action nears, which will be broadcast on SPEED TV at 7:30 p.m., here are some stats and facts of Indy Supecross.

Supercross Class Stats: Indianapolis

  • The first race was held March 21, 1992, and Jeff Stanton won a Honda
  • There has not been a first-time winner in Indianapolis
  • This will be the 20th time the gate will drop for an AMA Supercross race in Indianapolis and the third time that Lucas Oil Stadium has hosted a race
  • Prior to Lucas Oil Stadium, Monster Energy Supercross was held across the street at the RCA Dome
  • Indiana’s own Mike LaRocco captured the last Supercross class race of his career at the RCA Dome in 2004 aboard a Honda
  • LaRocco won the first Supercross class race of his career in 1991
  • Fourteen years passed between LaRocco’s first and last Supercross class win
  • Jeremy McGrath has six wins in Indianapolis and Ricky Carmichael has four wins
