Six years ago, BMW set out on a new path in the mid-range motorcycle market with the introduction of the BMW F800 Series. In addition to the sporty F 800 S and the touring version F 800 ST, the parallel twin BMW motorcycle engine was added to the F 800 GS and the F 650 GS in 2007–two dynamic enduro models in the very best BMW GS tradition.

With the new 2011 BMW F 800 R, BMW expands the F800 Series motorcycle family with a sporty roadster in the mid-range naked category. The F 800 R is designed for a high level of riding dynamics and maximum riding fun.

The engine of the F800R is a parallel twin with 4-valve technology and a capacity of 798 cc.
While the parallel 2-cylinder engine in the previous F 800 models had some torque, spontaneous response and low level of fuel consumption, the new model now reflects a further optimization of engine and throttle response thanks to a new throttle valve system.

The rated output of the engine is 87 hp at approx. 8,000 rpm and produces a torque of 63 lb-ft at approximately 6,000 rpm.

The mass compensation of the parallel twin is implemented by a system which is still unique in production motorcycle construction – an additional swivel rod compensates the mass forces, ensuring that the 2-cylinder engine runs with an unusually low level of vibration.

Closely based on the BMW K 1300 R in its design, the sporty 2011 F 800 R with its high level of riding dynamics delivers the goods. With a short gear ratio, the F 800 R possesses considerable acceleration capabilities.

The new BMW F 800 R has a claimed dry weight of 390 lbs. The chassis with double-sided rear-wheel swing-arm is especially adapted to the requirements of a sporty naked bike and has a secondary drive with O-ring chain.

In line with the demands of a dynamic roadster, the chassis is designed for handling, agility and steering precision and maximum riding fun on winding country roads.

The BMW F800 Series is the streetbike freestyle world champion Christian Pfeiffer’s bike of choice. Pfeiffer’s input was used in the development of the F 800 R which he continues to demonstrate his riding skills on at international competitions and shows.

The new F 800 R boasts possesses classic BMW virtues such as comfortable seating for rider and passenger. and is optionally fitted with Bembo ABS with a newly developed pressure sensor for even greater control of the system.

The BMW motorcycle accessory program is available for this new 2011 motorcycle.
