Monster Kawasaki: 2nd in Tecate Enduro

Mexico Tecate Enduro

Monster Energy Kawasaki riders Destry Abbott, Justin Soule, Taylor Robert, and Larry Roeseler finished second in the team competition at the 50th anniversary of the Tecate Enduro in Tecate, Mexico.

The motorcycle enduro-style event also saw Robert finish on the podium with a third overall result, Abbott in fifth and Soulè finishing just behind in sixth.

Abbott also won the Vet class, while Roeseler finished second in the Senior class aboard the Kawasaki.

While helping the team finish second in the team competition, Abbott was also busy winning the Vet class of the event. Already a previous overall winner, his experience helped him finish with a win and fifth overall despite being extremely sick.

Destry Abbott says: "This was one of the most enjoyable races I’ve done in a long time," said Abbott. "I think it would have been more fun if I wasn’t sick, but I really like the terrain down there. It was a lot of second and third gear stuff, which I really like. The dirt is really great. It was really about having fun and even though I was sick, it was a great experience."

With the Tecate Enduro being his first race back with Kawasaki since 2009, Robert made it count with a podium finish in third.

Taylor Robert says: "It was a great experience being back with Kawasaki," said Robert. "I really thought I had won it, but I’m still happy to get on the podium."

Traveling down the Tecate Enduro for the first time, Soule was ready to add the race to his resume. Although he was sick with the flu and bronchitis, he pushed through and finished sixth overall.

Justin Soule says: "If the results were based on the first two tests, I would have probably done a lot better, but my energy was shot after that. I had a really good time experiencing something new and different. The course was fun. I just wish I was feeling 100 percent."

Someone that wasn’t new to the race in Tecate was five-time overall winner Roeseler. He helped the team place second and also finished second in the Senior class.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki off-road program has seen great success at the Tecate Enduro over the years. Their trip down to Mexico was a great occasion to relive the heritage of the off-road program.

Jason Smigel (off-road supervisor) says: "Tecate definitely has a special place with Team Green and we were very happy to go down and support the Los Ancianos Club for the 50th anniversary of the race."

"A number of our riders have won the overall, including Destry (Abbott) and Larry (Roeseler). It ended up being a great bonding experience for the team that will essentially make up our team for 2011. With all our riders starting on the same minute, they were able to trail ride together between the different tests. It was nice to be reminded of our roots and supporting a great club like the Los Ancianos."
