KTM RC8 R Sets Track Record

Motorcycle News

KTM support rider Ty Howard arrived at Hallett Motor Raceway for the 7th round of the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association Championship Series undefeated with 18 straight sprint race wins and three track records.

Howard and his crew were worried that their perfect season may come to an end at the 7th round since Howard wasn’t performing at 100% due to an injury suffered in early June that left Howard with a broken tibia and torn meniscus.

Despite, not feeling his best, Howard came to the road race ready to perform to the best of his ability. The first race was the 1000 Superstock class. After some pushing and shoving in the opening corners the KTM motorcycle racer was pushed back to 5th place.

The power of the KTM 1190 RC8 R showed through as Howard was able to blow by the 1000cc riders on the short straights. By lap three he had the lead and began to pull away to his first weekend victory. "It’s nice to let the bike do all the work for you on the straights. It makes my job easy," remarked Howard.

Next on the schedule was the Formula One race. Due to the hotter temperatures (102 degrees), Howard switched to a softer Dunlop slick hoping for more traction. The gamble paid off and on lap 2, the RC8 R mounted rider broke the existing track record and pulled away to a 6 second victory.

Howard went on to win another race that day to take home three race wins. With three rounds remaining the perfect season of 21 victories and 4 track records heads to Decatur, TX for his next event.
