40,000 Motorcycles
A new development and administrative building at Husqvarna Motorcycles S.R.L. was opened at a special inauguration ceremony held last Monday, September 21. Speaking to those in attendance, which included Hendrik von Kuenheim, head of BMW Motorrad, as well as the company’s entire workforce, Rainer Thoma, general manager of Husqvarna Motorcycles S.R.L said, "The new development and administrative building has been planned and designed to provide product development with the best possible support and to permit optimum integration of all the functional units involved in the manufacturing processes for the entire range of Husqvarna Motorcycles S.R.L. products. Moreover, the new building has been dimensioned in line with the endeavoured medium-term growth target of 40,000 motorcycles per year."
The new building has three floors and has been built as an addition to the company’s head office at Via Nino Bixio 8. It has a usable floor space of approx. 5,800 m2 and incorporates the latest heat and sound insulation techniques. At the same time, great attention has been paid to the aspect of energy efficiency. Accordingly, energy for the hot water supply is provided by the solar panels fitted to the building’s roof. The total construction time beginning with the laying of the foundation stone was less than 15 months.
The ground floor houses the engine development department and roller dynamometer facilities, along with the prototype workshop, the racing division and a technical training centre.
The first floor is where the development department is located, although the purchasing and market research departments are also on this floor. These departments have been deliberately positioned close to the development section in the interests of increased functionality, quality and cost efficiency brought about by close cooperation with suppliers.
The senior management and administrative departments are located on the second floor, in the northern section of the building.
The roof area above the development department has been designed to be openly accessible for presentation purposes. A new showroom has been incorporated at the front of the new building, in which not only the latest models from Husqvarna Motorcycles but also the company’s motorsport activities are presented.
