The 2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000GX+ is a sport-touring crossover. It combines adventure-bike ergonomics and long-travel suspension with the 17-inch-wheel street platform of the GSX-S1000GT, slotting between the GT and the V-Strom 1050 adventure bike. In the US, it comes only in GX+ form, with color-matched 25.7-liter saddlebags and a centerstand as standard equipment.
The 999cc inline-4 traces its roots to the 2005 GSX-R1000 and has been updated to meet current emissions standards. It produces 151 horsepower and 78 ft-lbs of torque, with smooth, linear power that builds to an exciting top end. The 6-speed transmission has a quickshifter that works up or down, on or off the throttle, even with cruise control engaged.
Semi-active Showa suspension, a first for Suzuki, provides 5.9 inches of travel at each end, 1.2 inches more in front and 0.8 inches more in back than the GT. Hard, Medium, and Soft damping modes pair with four shock spring-preload settings, including self-leveling Auto, and a User mode allows fine-tuning. Damping adjusts 1000 times per second, and the ride stays composed on badly broken pavement.
A six-axis IMU informs cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, wheelie control, and Roll Torque Control, which limits power according to lean angle and speed. Active, Basic, and Comfort modes set power delivery, traction control, and damping, and the bike remembers changes made within each mode. Brembo monoblock 4-piston calipers grip 310mm front discs.
The rider triangle splits the difference between the GT and the V-Strom. The wider handlebar sits 2.2 inches closer to the rider, the footpegs are lower for more legroom, and the touchpoints are rubber-mounted. The seat is 33.3 inches high, but it is narrow and flat at the front, and the softest preload setting lowers the bike further at stops.
A larger fairing and a three-position windscreen with two inches of adjustment improve wind protection. The 6.5-inch TFT display connects to iOS and Android phones through the Suzuki mySPIN app.
Suzuki offers the 2024 GSX-S1000GX+ in Pearl Matte Shadow Green for $18,499. It is for riders who want superbike-derived power and sporty handling combined with touring comfort and luggage, on any road surface.
