Sena has launched the Prism 2, a 4K action camera designed to record Mesh Intercom conversations alongside video. It shoots 4K at 30 fps through a 165-degree lens, takes 20-megapixel stills, delivers an IPX7 waterproof rating, and records audio wirelessly from a Sena Mesh network. The Sena Prism 2 sells for $349 and is available now through Sena dealers and at Sena.com. It revives a camera line Sena had not updated since the Prism Tube WiFi, more than seven years ago.
- The Prism 2 records Sena Mesh Intercom audio directly to the camera. On most action cameras, capturing intercom chatter means splitting the audio from a headset with adapters, cables, or a second recorder, then syncing it later. The Prism 2 joins the Mesh network and records the conversation to the video file. It works with Open Mesh and Group Mesh, supports Mesh Intercom 2.0 and 3.0, and lets the rider pick the channel. The Prism 2 captures multiple riders at once, so a group ride comes back as a conversation.
- Audio can be recorded from the camera’s built-in microphone, a paired Bluetooth headset, or a Sena Mesh network. The camera writes it as stereo AAC at 48 kHz. Wind ruins more on-bike audio than anything else, and Sena’s Advanced Noise Control is designed to keep voices clear in demanding conditions. Sena also lists independent left- and right-channel assignment as one of the camera’s audio features.
- Video is 4K Ultra HD at 30 fps with electronic image stabilization. Behind the f/2.0 lens sits a Sony IMX317 sensor with a 165-degree field of view, adjustable down through four settings. Below 4K, the camera shoots 2.7K at 60 or 30 fps, 1080p at 120, 60, or 30 fps, and 720p at 120 or 60 fps, all encoded as H.264. Stills run from 20 megapixels down to 2. EIS smooths out the vibration that comes with a bike-mounted camera. This matters more than on a helmet camera because engine buzz at highway speed can ruin an otherwise good video recording. There is a catch worth knowing before the ride: EIS does not cover the fastest frame rates. It works at 4K30, 2.7K30, 1080p60, 1080p30, and 720p60, so the fastest setting at each resolution — 2.7K60, 1080p120, and 720p120 — records unstabilized.
- Sena rates the Prism 2 at four hours of recording. The 1650 mAh lithium-polymer battery charges in 2.5 hours, and the camera ships with a second battery and a dual charger. The data is stored on a microSD card rated U3 or faster, which the buyer supplies. The camera module weighs 5.4 ounces, measures 2.87 by 1.96 by 1.25 inches, and works from -4 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit.
- A magnetic quick-mount system allows the user to switch the camera between positions in seconds. Sena includes two magnetic quick-release mounts, a handlebar mount, an extension pivot arm, and long and short adhesive mounts in the box. This allows uncomplicated perspective switches mid-ride without unbolting anything.
- Two touchscreens handle setup. A 2.4-inch rear screen is the main display, while a 1.4-inch front screen covers quick settings adjustments and recording confirmation. Built-in Wi-Fi connects the camera to the Sena Camera+ app, which previews footage, manages files, and shares clips from a phone. Bluetooth 5.2 handles headset pairing.
- The Sena Prism 2 gets the conversation into the video file without a workaround. Riders who post group-ride videos know how much of the story is in the intercom. As long as all the users are on a Sena intercom with Mesh software, an otherwise laborious task is eliminated.
