The 2024 KTM 390 Duke is a compact naked sportbike for new riders, returning riders, and those downsizing. KTM calls it 90% new, and the $5899 MSRP is unchanged from the previous model.
The LC4c single grows from 373cc to 399cc through a longer 64mm stroke, keeping the 89mm bore. Peak power comes 1000 rpm sooner and peak torque 250 rpm sooner, so the midrange is easier to reach. A larger airbox and new exhaust support the change, and the engine spins up vigorously.
The 6-speed transmission gets a new shift drum for improved engagement, and shifting is light. The clutch has assist-and-slipper functions. A quickshifter is a $247 option.
A new steel-trellis frame works with an open-lattice aluminum swingarm and a cast aluminum subframe. Updated wheels cut nearly 10 pounds of unsprung mass, and the Duke tips into corners quickly. The offset shock makes room for the larger airbox and lowers the seat slightly, to about 32 inches.
Adjustable WP Apex suspension is a rarity at this level. The inverted fork offers five clicks of compression and rebound damping, and the shock is adjustable as well. New riders can learn setup on it.
A Bybre 4-piston caliper grips a 320mm front disc, and a 2-piston caliper handles the 240mm rear disc. Michelin Power 6 tires are standard. The two-channel cornering ABS has a Supermoto setting that disables the rear.
Track, Sport, and Rain ride modes are selected through a five-inch TFT display. Adjustable traction control, launch control, and a pit-lane limiter are included, and the lighting is all LED.
The riding position is neutral, and the narrow single makes it easy to plant both boots at a stop. The compact cockpit suits shorter riders better than those pushing six feet, and the thin seat padding can tax riders on long days. Colors are Signature Electronic Orange and Atlantic Blue.
