Sena Specter First Look: Smart, Modular Motorcycle Helmet

The Sena Specter is a modular helmet that incorporates the latest mesh-software intercom and Euro-spec protection. Weighing in at 3.6 pounds in a Medium size, the Sena Specter has an MSRP of $649 and is available in Matte Black or Glossy White.

The Specter has earned DOT and ECE R22.06 certifications, with the P/J Dual homologation. That means the modular helmet, which features a fiberglass and Kevlar outer shell, is considered safe with the chin bar in both the up and down positions. Additional safety is provided by an integrated rear running/brake light. The Sena Specter is Pinlock 120XLT-ready.

Running Mesh Intercom 3.0 software and Wave Intercom connectivity, riders can communicate in close range via mesh and over long distances when cell service is available. Sound is provided by 2nd Generation Harman Kardon speakers and AI-based noise cancellation. Software updates are over-the-air using the free Sena Motorcycles app for iOS and Android.

There won’t be many excuses for a dead battery on the Sena Specter. Talk time is rated for 30 hours, a recharge takes 2.5 hours, and it turns on and off automatically. Should the battery find itself depleted, the intercom system can be used while it is being charged from an external power source, such as a power bank.
