2014 Portimao World Supersport ResultsFor the fourth time in the 2014 World Supersport Championship, Pata Honda’s Michal van der Mark claimed victory.
The 21-year-old Dutch rider’s latest win arrived at Portugal’s Portimao circuit that hosted round eight of WSS. Van der Mark was joined on the podium by CIA Insurance Honda’s Jack Kennedy and MAHI Racing Team India Kawasaki’s Kenan Sofuoglu.Starting from second on the grid behind Sofuoglu, who earned his 19th World Supersport pole at Portimao, Van der Mark piloted his CBR600RR into the lead on lap six of a scheduled 18. He remained in the lead until a red flag were waved on the 13th lap due to rain, and the race was decided.Rounding out the top five were Raffaele de Rosa aboard the other CIA Insurance Honda, PJ Jacobsen (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres) and Lorenzo Zanetti (Pata Honda World Supersport Team), respectively.Except for a crash at the season opener at Phillip Island, Van der Mark has finished second or better at all races.With his main championship rival, Jules Cluzel, failing to finish at Portimao, Van der Mark now has a 53-point lead.The World Supersport series now takes an extended nine-week break over the summer months, returning to Jerez in Spain September 5-7. However, work doesn’t end for Van der Mark; both Pata Honda riders will travel to Japan this week to test for Honda in preparation for the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hour race which takes place July 27.2014 Portimao World Supersport Results:
