Traveling The Alps via MotorcycleMention the Alps and you will get the synapses firing wildly and the salivary glands working overtime as they consider the options of one of the world’s most coveted riding regions.
With the cultures of the Swiss, French, Germans, Austrians, Romanians, Slovenians, and Italians converging on some of the most skyscraping mountainous terrain in the world, and engagingly designed roads to ride them, there are few other places anyone would prefer to spend a two-wheel vacation. In many ways, the Alps are simply a collection of stunning passes that link lush mountain valleys containing picturesque rural villages that engage in farming when not welcoming passing motorcyclists. Long twisting climbs are followed by a breathtaking view of the road ahead that drops down into the next valley and adventure.Even within the Alps you have wonderful sub-ranges, such as the Dolomites. Here, the mountain faces are at their most vertical, with the bare limestone cliffs rising from the greenery of the forest and meadows. Rugged rivers and mind-warping tunnels add to the variety, as every moment of riding can be cause to pinch yourself to make sure it’s not all a long-form dream.Perhaps the best way to navigate such an overwhelming part of the world is with a proper tour company with exactly the right sort of motorcycle to fit your style. Beach’s Motorcycle Adventures has been running European tours for over 40 years, giving the company a solid bedrock of experience.Further, as a BMW Motorrad Official Travel Partner, they offer an incredible array of motorcycles, ranging from the S 1000 RR superbike to the K 1600 GTL luxury tourer, most GSes, naked sport bikes, the classic R 1200 RT, and even BMW’s new scooter line. The Classic Alpine Adventure tour is both a perfect way to become acquainted with the Alps for future rides, and as a one-time-only way to experience the highlights that the mountain range has to offer. In two-weeks Beach’s guides you through four countries and even more cultures, as you find yourself completely immersed in the Sound of Music that comes from a premium internal combustion motor.Unquestionably a luxury tour, the Classic Alpine Adventure includes such feature as a pre-programmed GPS, European cell phone programmed with relevant numbers, and a luggage van.
Zero Electric ADV Bike + Al and Bridget from Throw Your Leg Over
byMotos and Friends by Ultimate Motorcycle
Hello everyone and welcome to Motos and Friends, a weekly Podcast brought to you by the editorial team at Ultimate Motorcycling. My name is Arthur Coldwells.
Electric mobility is everywhere nowadays. Whether it’s a car, a truck, an assisted bicycle, a scooter, or any number of new innovations, the electric revolution is certainly here. In this week’s first segment, Nic de Sena took a ride on Zero’s recently announced new Adventure bike—the Zero DSR-X. There’s been a lot of hype about this new arrival on the ADV scene, and of course the questions are many. Nic talks to me about whether Zero actually have a credible, alternative energy ADV bike—or if the machine is just simply an empty promise.
In our second segment, I chat with Al and Bridget from ‘Throw Your Leg Over’. They took time out to record this episode from somewhere in the middle of Romania, of all places.
These interesting Aussies have traveled—and painstakingly documented—the thousands of miles they’ve covered riding the best roads and sights through Australia, Tasmania, Europe, eastern Europe, and Scandinavia, among other places.
