Heavy rainfall plagued Daytona Saturday evening for the 10th round of the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship.
But although the slippery conditions slowed some of the series’ top riders, JGRMX Yamaha’s James Stewart went on to win his second race of 2012 SX.
And it wasn’t a close race at all; Stewart finished over seven seconds ahead of his teammate Davi Millsaps during the race that was shortened from 20 to 16 laps. Taking the final podium position was GEICO Honda’s Kevin Windham.
With his Daytona Supercross win, Stewart now has 44 victories in the class, and is tied with Jeremy McGrath in second-place for the all-time SX/MX win list with 89.
James Stewart says: "It was a tough and gnarly race. Practice went really well, we set a good lap, won the heat race and got a good start. It was amazing and special to win Daytona for the second time.
"It means a lot for us to get a win and to go 1-2 as a race team. We had a lot of…I wouldn’t say bad luck but we had some struggles with starts – at least I have – and then some weird things happening. I’ve been saying if I got a start I felt like I could win one of these things. So tonight it was definitely good enough for me. So, I’m stoked."
