Stewart at Atlanta Supercross | POV Video

2012 AMA Supercross Video

Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha’s James Stewart took his fourth podium of the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship Saturday at Georgia Dome in Atlanta, the YZ450F rider finishing third behind Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy Kawasaki) and winner Ryan Dungey (Red Bull KTM).

Stewart didn’t get out of the gate so well, and was stuck within mid-pack by the first turn. He continued to progress through the field during the 20-lap event, but couldn’t catch Villopoto or Dungey.

James Stewart (JGRMX Yamaha YZ450F Supercross) says: "I felt good tonight but that start stopped me from going for the win. I had a decent day in practice and was fast and should have had the best lap-time. The heat race was good but the bad start in the main event…well that’s been a little bit the story of my season.

"I made some good passes and some aggressive ones to get up through the pack. I was catching those guys up front and then I slowly had to roll the triple at one point and that ended the race right there. I did my best and the team was awesome. We definitely had the chance to do it tonight but the start killed us."

Following Round 8 of 17, Stewart is third in the overall AMA Supercross point standings, 44 behind Villopoto, and 34 behind Dungey. Stewart will now travel to Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis this weekend for Round 9.
