There were rumors circulating of Ducati adding the 848 to its famed naked sportbike lineup, and on Monday the Italian manufacturer confirmed these rumors to be true.

These photos are the first of the 2012 Ducati Streetfighter, introducing the new machine which will be available in January 2012 in the yellow shown above. The Streetfighter will also be available in traditional Ducati red and a “dark stealth,” a matte black finish to enhance the Streetfighter 848’s aggressiveness.

The newer addition to the Streetfighter, which first arrived on the scene in 2008 and won the “Most Beautiful Bike” award in Milan that November, will arrive with the 848 Testastretta 11-degree engine.

The Streetfighter will be revamped for better street mannerisms over the 848 engine that muscles the mid-weight sportbike (848 EVO) that won the 2011 Daytona 200.

Ducati says this power will be paired with an enhanced chassis, revised ergonomics and Ducati Traction Control.

Speaking of the original 2008 Streetfighter, Ducati says “its asphalt-ripping reputation became the desire of sport naked connoisseurs throughout the world and the Streetfighter 848 will now widen that appeal even further with enhanced usability?”
