Silverstone Superbike: Checa Determined

2011 World Superbike

Following a three-week break from the 2011 World Superbike Championship, Carlos Checa and the Althea Ducati team throttle into Silverstone in the UK this weekend for Round 9 of 13.

Heading into the revamped Silverstone circuit, Checa has a 30-point lead over the reigning World Superbike Champion, Alitalia Aprilia’s Max Biaggi. In third, 53 points behind Ducati’s Checa is Yamaha World Superbike’s Marco Melandri.

Checa is determined to extend his lead at Silverstone, which will help him achieve his first World Superbike Championship.

But the Ducati 1198 pilot has much work to do, especially considering his 7-10 results last season – the Silverstone podium usually consists of many brits, such as last year’s finishes when British riders controlled to podium in both races.

Carlos Checa (Althea Ducati 1198 Superbike) says: “I really like the Silverstone track, despite the straights where we’ll suffer a little. I’m however optimistic and excited to see the brand new paddock area and the changes that have been made in the last year.

“I have many British friends and if, as forecast, the weather stays good, it will no doubt be a great weekend. We will work as always to find the best possible set-up and I can say that I am revved up and feeling confident.”

Following Silverstone World Superbike, the series takes its traditional August break before resuming in Nurburgring in early September.
