    A few weeks ago in Australia the World Superbike Championship series made its debut for 2011 with Spaniard Carlos Checa taking a double win aboard his Althea Ducati.

    Last week welcomed the official start of the AMA Pro Road Racing series at the traditional opening round at Daytona. The results were amazing (albeit controversial).

    Official testing continued Thursday for World Superbike teams at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal. Team Althea Racing Ducati rider Carlos Checa continued to make strong progress despite the wet conditions.

    A heavy rain shower meant that there was no track action for the best part of the early morning session.

    The second day of official World Superbike testing at Portimao, Portugal, got underway in wet conditions on Thursday.

    Both the morning and afternoon sessions were plagued by consistent rain drops, but as the track began to slowly dry out during the later session, the top time went to Jonathan Rea on the Castrol Honda CBR1000RR.

    The collaboration between Termignoni and Genesio Bevilacqua’s Althea Racing Ducati will get off on the best possible footing tomorrow after the team’s general manager gladly accepted the invitation to exhibit the bike that Carlos Checa will ride in next year’s World Superbike Championship at "Termignoni Day," at Predosa in northern Italy.

    The Ducati Althea Racing Team has made a decision with regard to the next season of competition in the World Superbike Championship. Team owner and General Director Genesio Bevilacqua has reached an agreement with Shane Byrne who will join the Ducati Althea Superbike Team in 2010.

    The English rider will be team-mate to the Spanish rider Carlos Checa on the Ducati Superbikes. "Shakey" as his supporters call him, participated in the last Superbike world championship riding a Ducati bike and reaching the eighth final position in the riders championship standing.
