Pesaro has always been the "city of engines," as much in the present as in the past: great motorcycle racers such as Tonino Benelli, Dorino Serafini, Paolo Campanelli, Silvio Grassetti, Eugenio Lazzarini and Valentino Rossi have mastered the art of riding on the hills that surround the city.
Here, in the heart of Italy, as the country celebrates the 150th anniversary of its unification, is located Benelli QJ, the Italian company that designs and manufactures motorcycles admired all over the world.
Along with it, a dynamic center full of activities, expositions and documentation, Benelli Officine, operates in Pesaro to keep the memory of a legendary trademark alive.
In September, the famous house of motorcycles from Pesaro, will celebrate its 100th anniversary (1911-2011) on the roads of the great champions of the past and the present.
Benelli QJ, the city of Pesaro, the "Registro Storico Benelli" and the Moto Club Pesaro "T. Benelli" promote a program full of activities, concentrated during the "Benelli Week," September 12 – 18: seven days of unmissable events for all the "House of the Lion" enthusiasts.
Program of the main activities:
From Monday, Sept. 12, to Thursday, Sept. 15, motorcycle tours will be organized everyday, starting at 9.30 a.m. from Officine Benelli, lunch break during the trip, return at 4.30pm and visit to the Officine Benelli. Ten itineraries have been selected, "On the roads of the champions": from the Adriatic Sea to the hills of the Marches, up to the mounts of the Apennines.
A motorcycle experience that’s both journey and discovery, as described in the guide "Pesaro eÌ€ in moto" (turismopesaro.it, page "cittaÌ€ dei motori") created by the City of Pesaro in collaboration with Benelli Officine. For the occasion, the Moto Club offers the possibility to rent fabulous historic motorbikes.
Friday, Sept. 16, the "Benelli QJ Open Day" will start at 10 a.m. at the Benelli factory (Pesaro, Strada Fornace Vecchia, 3) and it will include a guided tour of the production area, where the famous TNT – emblems of the Italian house – are created.
After discovering the secrets of the Benelli production, the trademark enthusiasts will get on their motorbikes to handle the itinerary "Discovering the Capute", an amazing hill ride that crosses breathtaking landscapes, among which the amazing Urbino and the Montefeltro; return to Pesaro at 7 p.m.
Besides motorcycle tours, during the event, various happenings of amusement and meetings will be held at evening, always focusing on the history of Benelli.
Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 9 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Montani Antaldi Palace – kindly conceded by the Cassa di Risparmio di Pesaro Foundation (Via Passeri, 72) – will take place the "Benelli Talk Show". Massimo Fiorentino, Director of the Motitalia magazine, and all the engine enthusiasts will meet the Benelli family, workers, technicians, riders, dealers and the main characters of the history of Benelli.
Wednesday, Sept. 14, Thursday, Sept. 15 and Friday, Sept. 16, at 9 p.m. in the area "Benelli Ospitality" in the Square of the Centro Direzionale Benelli, "the city of engines meets the city of music": free-entrance music events.
Saturday, Setp. 17, at 9 a.m. – LibertaÌ€ square. Thanks to the collaboration of all the Moto Clubs of the province of Pesaro, an unmissable appointment for all the motorcycle enthusiasts starting with a touristic tour in the morning and meeting point in LibertaÌ€ square in the afternoon. At 5p.m. the music will start and to finish in great style, at 7 p.m. another show with a distinctive soundtrack – "grumble of thunder" – Benelli competition motorbikes, that characterized many world races, that were ridden by the racers Grassetti, Pasolini, Carruthers and Saarinen during the Sixties and the Seventies, will release the unmistakable grumble of the multi cylinders made in Pesaro.
Sunday, Sept. 18, at 9 a.m., at Officine Benelli located in Mameli Street, "Benelli Parade" on the hills surrounding Pesaro, reserved only for Benelli and MotoBi motorbikes, ASI (Italian Historic Cars and Motorbikes Club) with a grand finale on the Panoramic Street of the San Bartolo Hill and lunch at Villa Caprile.
Pesaro is part of the Association "City of engines": born in 2008, it reunites the cities of the "Made in Italy" related to engines in the widest sense of the term (cars, scooters and motorbikes, aeronautics, railways and shipbuilding industry, cities that host sports circuits, museums and cultural institutions).
