2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb
Westone Laboratories, Inc. teams up with the Spider Grips Ducati Race Team to provide motorcycle specific in-ear technologies and hearing protection as the riders defend their title at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Westone has equipped Spider Grips Ducati Team riders Greg Tracy and Alexander Smith with CR-1 custom made earphones.
These earpieces will provide riders with crystal clear communications from the team directors as well as noise attenuation up to 25db.
Lynn Kehler (President & CEO, Westone) says: "Our CR-1 custom earphones use the latest in vinyl casting techniques and a Westone EPIC downward routed cable for extreme comfort even under full face helmets. High-fidelity sound is achieved using a full range balanced armature speaker adapted from the hearing healthcare industry.
"While decibel levels approach 116db on a motorcycle, it’s actually the wind noise that poses the most risk to your hearing while riding. Sustained exposure to these noise levels erodes a rider’s ability to hear, and using specialized equipment can reduce the risk of hearing loss."
Tracy, Smith, Team Directors and support personnel will also be equipped with Westone DefendEar 40-4 custom HPDs (hearing protection devices) utilizing Westone’s proprietary Oto-Blast® material that can provide up to 35db noise reduction.
The DefendEar 40-4 is designed for extremely loud environments, such as the pit or while on the course.
In addition to the support for the race team, Westone will be in Ducati’s pits on race day to provide complimentary ear impressions to those customers participating in Ducati’s "All Roads Lead to Pikes Peak" gathering. These impressions can be utilized to customize a perfect fit for any of the Westone’s earphones or hearing protection products.
David Slepak (Manager of Marketing) says: "We’re extremely excited to be working closely with the Spider Grips Ducati Team to promote hearing conservation and awareness of the many products available to assist riders in protecting their hearing."
"As riding enthusiasts and ‘in-ear experts,’ we’ve developed several products that protect riders’ hearing and deliver crystal clear communications or high-fidelity sound while remaining comfortable under the latest generation of helmets."
