2011 IOMTT
On Monday, qualifying got underway for the 2011 Isle of Man TT races with rainy conditions on the 37.73-mile Mountain Course, causing damp conditions from Glen Helen to Ramsey.
The Superbike, Superstock and Supersport Isle of Man TT classes were able to get two laps around the course on Monday, the third being red-flagged due to heavy rain on the Mountain. The sidecars also got in two laps.
Leading the Superbike times was 15-time winner John McGuinness on the Honda TT Legends CBR1000RR Fireblade. The Morecambe rider lapped the Mountain Course an average of 122.838 mph. But not far behind McGuinness was his teammate, Keith Amor, who averaged 122.637.
In the Supersport class, Luis Carreira lead the pack with a speed of 117.612 mph. The Portuguese rider was followed by Dan Keen aboard the, who averaged a 116.888. Keen had also competed at Thruxton British Superbike earlier in the day.
In Superstock, Conor Cummins lead the timesheets. Cummins, who returned after suffering a 170-mph crash during last year’s Isle of Man TT, was followed by New Zealand’s Bruce Anstey posted the second quickest lap of the session on his Superstock Padgett’s Honda machine (122.752).
In the sidecar class, which was out first due to many of the solo riders competing at Thruxton British Superbike, the Klaus Klaffenbock/Daniel Sayle team lead with a quickest mph of 107.407 ph, followed by the Simon Neary/Jason Crowe team at 106.971 mph.
