Active Motorcyclist
The Tucson Safeway massacre has not only affected Arizona, but the the entire USA, including many motorcyclists. Six were killed in the incident, and US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot several times in the head on Sunday.
Police say Jared Lee Loughner, 22, fired at Giffords before killing the six others, and wounding many more.
On Thursday, Giffords was acting more like someone waking up, her doctor’s reported. Doctors next step will be to remove the breathing tube.
And joining the many hoping for a quick and healthy recovery are many motorcyclists; Giffords has been riding and racing motorcycles for the past 20 years, and was very active in the motorcycle world.
Attached is a YouTube video from 2009. In the video, Giffords encourages motorcyclists to participate in Ride to Work Day on June 15. She also highlights some practical benefits of motorcycles and encourages all road users to ride or drive responsibly. The Ride to Work Day was a huge success in 2009.
Following is a quote from President Obama abotu Giffords, who is married to a NASA astronaut, Mark..
President Obama says: "I have just come from the University Medical Center, just a mile from here, where our friend Gabby courageously fights to recover even as we speak. And I want to tell you, her husband Mark is here and he allows me to share this with you – right after we went to visit – a few minutes after we left her room and some of her colleagues from Congress were in the room – Gabby opened her eyes for the first time.
"Gabby opened her eyes for the first time. Gabby opened her eyes. Gabby opened her eyes so I can tell you she knows we are here, she knows that we love her and she knows that we are rooting for her through what is undoubtedly what will be a difficult journey."
