Fausto Gresini, owner Gresini Moto2 team, was made an honorary citizen of the town of San Clemente, Italy, on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Sant´Andrea sports centre in Casale.
Mayor Christian D´Andrea was on hand to honor the double 125cc MotoGP World Champion and Gresini Racing team manager, who has based his racing operations in San Clemente since forming the race team several years ago.
The current headquarters on Via Verdi is home to the entire history of Gresini Racing, from that first podium for Alex Barros to the most recent world title achieved in Moto2 with Toni Elias and the famous bike number 74 of the unforgettable Daijiro Kato, who won the 250cc World Championship in 2001.
All of it is a symbol of the success founded in San Clemente, which as a town has in turn paid homage to Fausto Gresini.
Fausto Gresini (Moto2 Gresini Team Manager) says: "It has been an emotional evening! It gives me great pleasure that the San Clemente town council have decided to make me an honorary citizen. The heart of Gresini Racing has always beaten here in San Clemente and this recognition makes me enormously proud."
