Motorcycle Stunts
Showing freestyle sportbike riders at their best, Inside XDL, a Versus program, will hit it’s half-way point this Tuesday, Nov 2. Episode 4 of Inside XDL will be broadcast on Versus at 9:30 p.m. (PST) Tuesday.
This episode occurs at Irwindale Speedway, the original birthplace of the XDL Championship Series. Back in 2005, The XDL Show, as it was then known, was the first attempt at combining professional drift drivers and stunt riders.
The event was broadcast on SPEED as an episode of Redline TV and marked the start of an experiment that has turned stunt riding, or sportbike freestyle as it is now known, into one of the fastest growing action sports in America.
Randy Grube (XDL founder) says: "We’ve spent the last five years building a name for ourselves in the motorcycle industry. The first three years were extremely difficult because we were building a new sport and at the same time had to convince people we’re not a bunch of screw ups."
"Today we’ve put together a professional series unlike any other in the world. Our 2010 schedule started at Daytona Beach as part of Bike Week and ended with MotoGP in Indy. In between we hit Lake Havasu City on Spring Break, Nashville – just in time for the flood of the century, LA and the ESPN X Games. XDL competitors come from all over the country and the world and our fan base extends to places such as Indonesia, France, Japan, Russia and Germany."
Inside XDL is a documentary drama that offers the viewer a behind the scenes look at the 2010 season as the cameras follow the top contenders in their chase for the national championship. The viewer learns that XDL events are highly organized, very professional and several factories are already represented in the sport. Inside XDL features drama, action, some of the best motorcycle riding on the planet and of course the obligatory crashes.
Most of all, Inside XDL introduces the public to some of the most talented and colorful rider personalities in the country:
Bill Dixon: Factory Yamaha rider and 2009 and 2010 XDL champion. Better known as "The Machine" for his consistency. Dixon is the embodiment of confidence, bordering on arrogance, but one of the nicest and most genuine people in the sport.
Chris "Teach" McNeil: Factory BMW rider and two-time XDL East Coast champion. McNeil is the self-proclaimed "best rider out there" and famous for riding so far on the edge you think he’ll crash at any second…and sometimes does.
Nick "Apex" Brocha: 2008 XDL champion, the king of acrobatics and innovation, also known for being "an arrogant a-hole" and having a "gypsy temper." But say what you want, Apex is popular with the ladies.
Aaron Colton: Factory Ducati and Red Bull rider and 2006 XDL champion. The youngest and possibly most talented athlete on the circuit.
Joe Dryden: Factory Aprilia rider and the most precise guy in XDL
Luke "The Fury" Emmons: One of the best riders in the nation that is gifted with a dry sense of humor wrapped in the voice of a 12 year old.
Alex Flores: 2007 XDL champion and ringleader of the Cali Alliance. Best known for driving a converted Greyhound bus all across the country.
