Road America: Saturday Rockstar Report

Superbike Results

Rockstar Makita Suzuki teammates Tommy Hayden and Blake Young were looking forward to Round 5 of the AMA American SuperBike series at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Both racers felt confident that they could do well at the track, and they proved to be right after an amazing race on Saturday. Hayden finished second and Young took the third-place spot on the podium.

Tommy Hayden says: “I have some ideas for a few little changes in bike setup for Sunday,” Hayden said. “Hopefully that will give me the little bit of an advantage I need to get out front.” Hayden finished in second place, but it was a photo finish. He came across the finish line one one-hundredth of a second behind the racer who was awarded the first-place trophy.

“The track was just a little bit too long for me today,” Hayden said after the race. “This is the third time this year I’ve been on the backend of a close finish. I have some ideas on what we can change for tomorrow to make sure we’re on the winning end.”

Hayden started the day off second on the starting grid after a very successful qualifying session Saturday morning. He and his crew have his GSX-R1000 set up very well, and it showed on the track that Hayden has confidence in his race bike.

Blake Young also qualified and put himself in a great starting position, taking the third spot on the front of the grid. Young wanted to win at Road America on Saturday because it’s considered his hometown race and he has many fans.

Blake Young says: “It’s hard to be in front of my hometown crowd and come in third,” Young said. “I’m going to try really hard to win for the fans here tomorrow. We’ll make some tweaks and come back at it tomorrow ready to get up front.”

Tommy Hayden is still second in overall points in the AMA American SuperBike series, and only three points out of the lead.

Blake Young is currently in fourth overall, and both racers will be vying to earn more points on the amazing Road America track.
