The 2024 Honda Africa Twin is a big adventure bike with a dirt-ready chassis and a choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or the DCT automatic. It returns to the US lineup after a year away, with more engine performance, a new fairing, and tubeless tires.
The 1084cc parallel twin has a 270-degree crankshaft. For 2024, it gets a revised airbox with larger, longer intake ducts, new valve timing, a higher compression ratio, and new ECU settings for more low-rpm and midrange power. A lighter single-inlet, dual-outlet muffler with an exhaust control valve gives a deeper exhaust note at high rpm.
The optional DCT has revised software for smoother engagement from a stop and at low speeds, and it downshifts earlier to use the added torque. It runs in fully automatic or manual-shift modes, and DCT models have a parking brake.
A six-axis Bosch IMU informs the cornering-aware ABS, traction control, engine-braking control, and DCT shifting. An off-road ABS setting disables the rear ABS. The 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and cruise control is standard.
The steel semi-double-cradle frame carries fully adjustable Showa suspension: an inverted 45mm fork and a remote-reservoir shock with 8.7 inches of travel. The 21-/18-inch wire-spoke wheels now have tubeless rims and wear Metzeler Karoo Street tires. Ground clearance is 9.8 inches.
The new fairing is designed to improve the off-road riding experience, and the five-position windscreen adds protection on the highway. The seat adjusts between 34.3 and 33.5 inches, and accessory Comfort and Low seats are available.
Honda groups its accessories into four Packs, Rally, Adventure, Travel, and Urban, with every item also sold separately. They include engine guards, a quickshifter for the manual model, fog lights, panniers, a top box, heated grips, and a centerstand. An SC-Project slip-on muffler is also offered.
The Africa Twin is for riders who want a big-bore adventure bike for rough trails and long highway days. The 2024 Honda Africa Twin comes in Grand Prix Red, priced at $14,799, or $15,599 with DCT.
