Adventure Riders Challenge slated for May 14-17, 2009

Motorcyclists looking for adventure are invited to participate in RawHyde’s Adventure Riders Challenge at RawHyde Adventure Center – BMW’s new West Coast off-road academy, May 14-17. The event, sponsored by BMW Motorrad USA, covers almost 500 miles over mountains with a view of the Pacific Ocean followed by desert riding the next day. Most of the route is dirt – all of it is scenic.

Participants will arrive on Thursday May 14 to ride the coastal mountains on Friday May 15 and hit the desert on Saturday May 16. Two routes are provided – one requiring big-time adrenaline for the thrill seekers and another easier, more relaxed ride. The rides are mandatory to complete the Challenge, and there will be lunch and check points along the way.

A highlight of the Challenge is the Rodeo which requires strong low-speed and balancing skills, particularly for the "Pit and the Pendulum". There will be thousands of dollars in prizes and a chance to pit riding skills against other participants in team and individual competitions.

Day One features a "Pit" challenge–a team event where three-person teams ride their motorcycles through a deep ravine full of natural obstacles (and some un-natural obstacles as well). The fastest team to make it through is the winner.

Day Two includes a solo competition where individual riders accrue points for demonstrating skills of balance, and finesse taking their bikes over obstacles through technically challenging terrains.

The event is limited to 250 participants and is open to all brands of motorcycles. Motorcyclists provide their own motorcycle.

A $349 participation fee includes: Entrance in rodeo, ten meals, a campsite, a personal photo journal of photos taken of each participant at the event, GPS tracks and routes, a souvenir shirt, live entertainment and more. Spectators are charged $319.
