Marco Simoncelli Viewing Video

Hundreds of Marco Simoncelli fans and friends paid respect to the San Carlo Honda Gresini MotoGP rider Wednesday at the Municipal Theater in his hometown of Coriano, Italy.

Among those bidding farewell to Simoncelli were some of Italy’s biggest sports starts, including basketball player Walter Magnifico and Marco Melandri, Simoncelli’s close friend and 2010 teammate in the Gresini team during the his rookie season.

MotoGP says: "A long line of mourners formed early this morning at the chapel, which will remain open until 10pm this evening, and where Simoncelli’s body is resting prior to his funeral on Thursday. Behind the Italian rider’s coffin the Gilera bike, on which he won the 2008 250cc World Championship title, and the Honda RC212V, on which he competed in the MotoGP class, were presented."

A funeral at the Santa Maria Assunta Church will be held Thursday for the 24-year old, who passed away following a crash Sunday at Sepang MotoGP.

Many MotoGP riders are expected to attend, including Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Jorge Lorenzo and Sete Gibernau. Because of the expected turnout, two large screens will be installed outside the church, and another at the Misano circuit. The funeral will also be broadcast live on various Italian TV stations.
