The Insta360 X6 is the new flagship of the company’s X-series 360 cameras. The X6 consolidates equipment that previously required separate purchases: Insta360 sells it as a 360 camera, a tracking gimbal camera, and a single-lens action camera into a single body. It’s not replacing the X5, which stays in the lineup. Pricing starts at $700 MSRP for the Standard Bundle, with a Motorcycle Bundle at $770.
The changes from the X5 are larger image sensors, a faster three-chip processor, in-camera Dolby Vision recording, a microphone tuned for engine sound, and an editing system that assembles finished clips while the camera charges. The camera weighs 6.9 ounces, measures 2 x 3.9 x 1.6 inches with the lenses fitted, and holds 64GB of built-in storage (47GB usable), plus a microSD slot. Here is what the X6 brings:
The X6 uses larger image sensors than the X5. Insta360 fitted a pair of custom 1/1.1-inch square Sony sensors, which the company says provide 33% more sensor area than the X5, and roughly four times the light per frame. Insta360 describes the combined result as 1-inch equivalent imaging across the full sphere.
Maximum resolution is 8K at 50 fps in 360 mode. That works out to 7680×3840. The camera also shoots 6K at up to 60 fps and 4K at up to 100 fps. Bullet Time reaches 240 fps at 4K. Still photos top out at 120MP in 360 mode and 42MP in flat mode. Video is encoded in H.265 at a maximum bitrate of 240 Mbps.
Three chips handle the processing. An 8-core, 3.3 GHz, 4nm processor works alongside two dedicated imaging chips. Insta360 claims the combination delivers six times the computing power of the X5, more than doubles the clock speed, and has a third-lower draw. The company credits the added processing for improvements in detail, color, and noise reduction, particularly in low light.
The X6 shoots in three modes. In 360 mode, it records the full sphere; framing is done in editing. InstaFrame 2.0 tracks a subject and outputs flat 4K video while simultaneously recording an 8K 360 backup. In single-lens mode, the camera works like a conventional action camera at up to 5K60, 5K30 with a 170-degree wide-angle setting, and 4K120 for slow motion. Two accessories extend the tracking. The Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit adds joystick control, and the POV Head Tracker ties framing to the user’s head position. FlowState stabilization and 360 Horizon Lock carry over from previous X-series cameras.
A new low-light mode uses two ambient light sensors to cut flicker. AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens separately and records two exposures per frame to widen dynamic range. Aperture is f/2.0, and the 35mm equivalent focal length is 7.78mm. ISO covers 100 to 6400, and shutter speeds range from 1/8000 to 120 seconds.
The X6 records Dolby Vision in-camera, which Insta360 says is a first for a 360 camera. The camera analyzes dynamic metadata frame by frame to set contrast and brightness for each shot. It records 10-bit color with over one billion recordable colors. Three color profiles are available: standard Rec.709, Dolby Vision, and I-Log for post-production grading.
A new microphone is tuned for motorcycles. Insta360 calls it the Hidden Engine Mic and says it filters wind noise and isolates engine sound. It works alongside a four-microphone windproof array. Intelligent Audio Mode changes settings based on the surrounding environment. Two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters can connect simultaneously via Direct Connect. The camera also pairs with helmet Bluetooth headsets, including the Sena C30, ST1, 60S, 50S, and 10S, as well as the Cardo Spirit, Neo, 2X, and 4X.
The Motorcycle Bundle has our attention. It includes the X6, a heavy-duty clamp, an 114cm Invisible Selfie Stick, an Xtreme Battery, a lens cap, a USB-C cable, and a protective pouch. Returning features from the X5 include a speed-dashboard overlay, an auto-looping dashcam mode, and automatic license-plate blurring. Insta360 lists more than 100 accessories across the X6 range, and the magnetic mounting system remains compatible with mounts from the X5, X4 Air, and Ace series.
The Insta360 X6’s screen is a 2.32-inch OLED rated at 1200 nits. It stays on continuously, and Full Screen Press allows operation with gloves on.
Replaceable Lens 2.0 is five times more scratch-resistant than the previous version. The cost of replacement has been cut by 60%, according to Insta360.
Insta360 rates the battery at 140 minutes of 8K30 360 video. The 2600mAh Xtreme Battery is a 51% improvement over the X5, according to the company. It charges to 80% in 24 minutes and to 100% in 35 minutes using a 30W PPS charger. Operating range is -4 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The camera uses Star-Ridge cooling, which Insta360 says runs 10% more efficiently than competing 360 cameras, along with an insulated grip.
Wireless transfer runs at up to 100 MB per second. The X6 uses Wi-Fi 6 for that; wired transfer over USB-C 3.0 reaches 450 MB per second. NFC pairs by touch, and Bluetooth 5.3 pairs in about five seconds and reconnects in under one second.
The X6 produces an edited video without user input. Insta360 built an AI model called PanoMind, which the company says was trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage across more than 30 scenarios, including motorcycling, diving, and cycling. It is designed to read a full spherical scene rather than a flat frame. When the camera is plugged in to charge, a feature called AI Director assembles a highlight edit from the footage on the camera and sends the finished clips to the Insta360 app. The analysis runs on the camera rather than in the cloud, and the feature can be switched off. Insta360 Founder JK Liu says of the X6 and its app, “It captures everything around you, in any light, and hands you a finished edit before you even reach for your phone.”
Auto Edit 2.0 handles manual projects in one tap. It takes one clip or several and builds a complete edit, including framing, camera movement, cuts, music, and transitions. For users who want full control, Insta360 Studio remains free on Mac and Windows and covers multi-clip 360 editing, stitching, reframing, and export. Footage shot in I-Log carries the widest latitude for color grading.
Insta360+ cloud storage tops out at 2TB. Backup runs while the camera charges, is opt-in, and lets the user choose which files upload. Shared links open into a full 360 view rather than a flattened clip. Files stored in the cloud can be processed by Moments Pro, a cloud-side editing tool Insta360 built with Google Gemini. The user specifies a subject, mood, style, and timeframe, and the tool generates a video from the uploaded footage.
Pricing runs from $700 to $930 across the bundles. The Standard Bundle has an MSRP of $700 in Midnight Black or Arctic White. The Travel Bundle is $750, the Motorcycle Bundle is $770, the Essentials Bundle is $800, the Creator Bundle is $840, and the Invisible Dive Bundle is $930. Buyers who purchase and activate an X6 before September 30, 2026, receive one year of Insta360+ Premium at 500GB and three months of Moments Pro at two clips per month. Insta360 is also running a 90-day free replacement policy during the launch window. FlexiCare, which covers accidental damage with up to four replacements over two years, is an optional add-on. Also, Insta360 has a trade-in program that applies the value of old gear against the purchase of the new Insta360 X6.
