2027 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer Buyer’s Guide [Specs, Price]

The 2027 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer is the long-range road model in the Tiger 1200 family. It pairs the GT’s cast-aluminum 19-/17-inch wheels with a 7.9-gallon tank, and at Triumph’s estimate of 40 mpg, that’s good for about 320 miles between fill-ups, roughly 100 more than the GT Pro.

Range is only part of the Explorer package. The GT Explorer adds tire-pressure monitoring, lower engine bars, and a handlebar 0.4 inches higher and 0.4 inches wider than the Pro models’ bar. Heated rider and passenger seats and three-stage heated grips are standard, as they are across the 2027 range.

Every 2027 Tiger 1200 now carries Bosch front and rear radar. On the GT Explorer, it upgrades last year’s rear radar to a full set of rider aids: adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Brake Assist, Group Ride Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and Rear Distance Warning. A 7-inch Bosch touchscreen adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a waterproof, fan-cooled phone compartment with USB-C charging is built into the tank.

The Showa Heightflex semi-active suspension offers 7.9 inches of travel, automatic preload for passengers and luggage, and Firm, Medium, and Soft damping settings. It lowers the seat 1.2 inches at a stop, and Center Stand Assist raises the rear preload to make lifting a loaded bike onto the stand easier. Triumph rates the 1160cc T-plane triple at 156 horsepower and 96 lb-ft of torque, through a 6-speed gearbox with a quickshifter and shaft final drive. Seven riding modes are standard.

The GT Explorer is $24,995, $2000 more than the GT Pro and $1000 less than the Rally Explorer. It weighs 573 pounds, 22 more than the GT Pro, most of that in fuel. For riders who cover long distances on pavement, the extra range and tire-pressure monitoring are what the money buys.
